1. The disadvantages of federalism is that the federal government does not receive thorough of accurate information in regard to a natural disaster like Hurricane Katrina because there is always an assumption that there is always an area where it is safe and so there is not a backup plan in place, as well as the local and state government do not have a way of communication if power or cell towers go out in a disaster unlike the federal government. The Federal government has the military who are more trained in disaster scenarios compared to local government like: police, firefighters, and medical assistance. Due to the lack of ability to communicate accurately from the local government to the state government creates an inaccurate communication with the federal government, and if communication is inaccurate, then the resources provided will be as well. Like in the video the president continued to state that the people of New Orleans were safe and they have resources, but reality they were not because communication died. Another example of what lack of planning or a backup plan during disasters is the scenario at the hospital where they were low on staff and supplies this is including medicine, food, water, IV, etc. the staff had to make difficult decisions of who would receive care where the patients who could state their name, the patients who could not were considered unviable and did not receive IV or other medication.

2. I think that the states should have power in regards to same-sex marriage and marijuana because it give balance of what the citizens want and is okay will because the whole country is not always going to agree on every subject. However, I believe that the federal government should have some control on issues that cause danger to the citizens as a base law for them and the states can restrict more or leave at the base law level. The federal government can only make general laws, they cannot specify for each state’s needs.

Thank you for your time.

2nd peer post:

1.  The video can teach us that they can help people but it all depends on them taking the right steps and doing so quickly. It also teaches up how fast they can turn on people meaning how the people were walking the bridge to get to safety and they were turned around with police dogs and telling them to go back. The disadvantages are that it takes the right people to want to help including the president of united states.  Another disadvantage is that citizens suffer in the meantime of them figuring things out and because of inequalities across states.

2. I think that states should have the power to there own states and have the power to decide certain things for rules to apply. I am kind of in between only because to a certain extent with topic I think deserve to have the ability to decide state by state. The topics that ere mentioned like guns, same-sex marriage, and marijuana I all feel different about, guns should be a world wide same rules applied, same sex marriage should be states by state and marijuana should be legal everywhere because its not hurting anyone and certain rules should apply to people are not mixing something bad in it.
