Week 3 - Creating Consumable Web Services for Mobile Devices

COLLAPSE

For any digital business, a good customer experience is essential. Mobile app features are not an exception. Mobile apps are becoming more critical for any business, and every day more people are using mobile applications to get more from their day-to-day activities. As mobile apps continue to grow and become more prominent, businesses must understand how best to manage them. One of the biggest challenges that a typical web designer faces in the mobile app development industry is that app designers' role is limited. Most designers create a mock-up of an app and then leave it to the developers to develop it into a real working app. Designing a mobile app is more than a simple layout; it is essentially the culmination of different UX elements that make up the app (Anıl & Doğan, 2022). With the increasing adoption of mobile apps, it is becoming more critical for businesses to adopt UX-driven design principles to their web and mobile apps. Mobile apps were perceived to be inferior to web apps in the past because their designs were considered essential. Over the years, mobile app designers have learned a lot about how users interact with apps and have come up with best practices to develop better results. The most crucial point is that mobile app design should be screen-specific and based on the device's screen size.

Mobile and desktop application design and development should offer different experiences based on the device. However, when comparing the two, there are several ways to design the app for mobile or desktop users. Some mobile and desktop developers are more equal than others when designing for both devices (Reis et al., 2022). Others tend to focus on one or the other. While differentiating between mobile and desktop is an essential aspect of app design, this is not necessarily a binary distinction most apps can serve as both a mobile app and a desktop app. Mobile app design and desktop app design offer different challenges. While there are several differences between the two, most can be boiled down to categories. The technical requirements are different in many ways hardware specs, screen size, and interaction mechanisms. The design requirements are different, too: what kind of layout to use, what kind of interaction to use, and what content to serve (Anıl & Doğan, 2022).

With the rising number of mobile apps, there has been a rise in users preferring to use apps over the conventional desktop-based web-based solutions. The user interface of apps is essential, but the overall design makes the app appealing. Good design provides a more holistic experience, which makes apps appealing to the end-user. Therefore, the design of mobile apps is more complex than that of desktop web applications (Janson et al., 2022). Apps are available on almost any mobile device, including smartphones, tablets, and, more recently, wearables. For instance, there were only two dimensions for a design in the past. One was the width and height of an element. The other dimension was depth. As the web moved to the mobile era, developers started developing screens that did not have a height limit. One has a device that allows the user to swipe, zoom, and rotate its content on a smartphone. This requires developers to design a flexible layout.

The mobile app market is now highly competitive, particularly for consumers looking to try out new apps and services and to make the switch from desktop-based internet access. Moreover, an app has to fit within the constraints of its space on the screen. For a mobile app, there are several devices to consider. One dimension that a mobile app is constrained to is the width. With the increase in screen size, designers are tasked with providing attractive, functional, and efficient apps. There are two approaches to design. One creates individual elements that are then pieced together with design elements to create the desired result. The other is to create the entire design up front and then apply that across the site (Oliveira et al., 2022). The latter approach is better because it allows designers to make the entire design look consistent, intuitive, and cohesive. Many businesses and organizations are now turning to the power of mobile devices such as smartphones and tablets to enhance their customer experience and connect with consumers. The iPhone is a viral platform to build apps for; however, the Apple ecosystem is dominated by Macs, which may restrict the ability to create an app that will run and engage with consumers across a wide range of devices (Janson et al., 2022).

The users who think that they have the right to decide whether to participate in security measures, are the persons who have a pre-notion about secuirty. The menatality of such people can vary heavily. Some may decide to do it on their own, because they might not entrust some other organisation, otherwise, they don't take this thing too much seriously. Hence, a solution has to introduced to approach both the parties.

People who don't entrust some other organisation, for security measures, must be taught about the things which are out of their control. Many people, who pretend to know about Cybersecurity, don't even know about basic things like SSH-Keys, RSA Tokens, etc. Because they don't have the proper knowledge about it.

People simply resist technological changes in their personal life and in their business. They have a status quo bias, or a tendency to want to stick to the way that things are done right now.

Hence, it is very difficult to change mindset of such people. But a change can be brought.

As a professional, I will make him aware about the following things, about the most common cyber security threats, about the right mindset and browsing habits for security, Use two-factor authentication to add an extra layer of security to their accounts, making use of encryption to make their private data unreadable to attackers, and most importantly about creating and managing (unique)passwords for all their accounts.

I will also let that fellow know about how vulnerable they are to those tech-savvy criminals out there who are patiently waiting for the opportunity to take it from them.

They can steal identity to run up charges on others credit card, open new utility accounts, get medical treatment using their health insurance, or take advantage of their friends and family by impersonating as them on social media.

Security Policies and Implementation Issues

The number of security infractions reported by employees, the number of occurrences that could have been avoided, and the completion and proficiency rate for security awareness training are all common indicators of adherence to security regulations. These basic measurements provide a good starting point for determining whether individuals are held accountable for adhering to security policies (Kweon et al., 2019). However, they do not provide a complete picture of security compliance. For example, a single security violation could result from negligence, poor training, or unintentional wrongdoing. Similarly, a significant security awareness completion and competency rate do not imply that personnel are aware of security policies or make decisions per security guidelines. For these reasons, it is often helpful to examine a wider range of data when evaluating security compliance.

One can investigate a broader range of data by examining whether employees have been directed to adhere to specific security policies and whether those policies have been enforced when broken (D'Arcy et al., 2019). In some cases, these broader measures are more objective than the basic measurements described above. One may examine other metrics, such as the number of security violations detected and corrected before employees report them. In addition, one might look at the number of security violations reported to management or the number of violations that resulted in disciplinary action. This insight into whether individuals are being held accountable for adhering to security policies indicates other ways to improve compliance.

Other ways to measure compliance include benchmarking policies to industry standards, benchmarking policies to best practices in the security industry, and measuring training volume. Benchmarking the policies to industry standards helps identify whether an organization follows accepted industry best practices. Benchmarking the policies to best practices identified in the security industry can help identify whether an organization deviates from industry standards. Benchmarking the volume of training provided to employees can help identify whether employees are receiving sufficient training, which can help identify any areas that may require additional training. These approaches each have benefits and drawbacks, so it is essential to understand the strengths and limitations of each approach when deciding.
