Finding the true meaning of "Be Yourself"
I have always thought that being yourself is being the version that you own without sugar coating your obstacles. However, it has taken me 17 years to find the true definition of Be Yourself. After living my life moving around from France to Iraq, Jordan, and Greece, I landed in my destination, the U.S.A. Being able to speak an abundance of languages like French, Arabic, Kurdish, and English is a great attribute, especially since my future career incorporates me engaging with patients who may not be able to speak English in some cases. In the future, I would best picture myself pursuing a passion, rather than a career.
I was that one student who never had the opportunity to grow up in one place and call it home. What do I do? you might ask. Indeed, I found home to be a passion, not a roof over my head or the family that I know of. My passion to jump on the road to becoming a PA infiltrated itself when I was 15 years old. Every visit I had to my doctor made me excited. Even if I was going there because I was feeling sick, I was thrilled to see all the steps and procedures that my doctor made me follow. I felt safe around such a welcoming environment of people who had a passion to help others in life.
Recently, I have been volunteering at nursing homes around the DFW (Dallas Fort Worth) metroplex and aiding the patients to make sure that all their needs are met. I have joined a concurrent research PHAGES (Phage Hunters Advancing Genomics and Evolutionary Science) class at UNT to help greater expand my knowledge and be able to apply that knowledge further down into my career.
