Sandra Vargas’s response

We live in a nation where diversity exist, a nation that is formed by people that come from different cultural backgrounds, different values and beliefs. Due to the fact that diversity exist, people learn to form their own viewpoints about life. For instance when deciding what is the morally right thing to do in a particular situation people are going to use their own judgment. I believe there is no right or wrong way when deciding what is the moral right thing to do. I say that as long as people follow society laws and respect each others cultural differences, values and beliefs then people have the right to make their own judgment in any situation. “We may choose to believe that there are no morally right or wrong viewpoints- that the whole moral issue is a cultural game, and neither your opinion nor mine matters in the end, for there is no ultimate right or wrong.” (Rosendstand, 2016). We may feel the need to intervene and have some input in other peoples decision when they’re deciding what is the moral right thing to do. In the end our opinions wouldn’t matter because people usually make their decision based on what they believe.

As far as what are the correct principles or guidelines for living a morally good life; people usually live their life based on how they were brought up. From a very young age kids learn ethics and principles they must follow in life, it is up to them to continue following them as they get older. There is no right or wrong way to live a morally good life as long as people are happy with the choices they make in life then we really cant tell anyone how to live their life. Living in a culturally diverse society we learn to respect each other whether we may not agree in certain situations. For example coming from a Hispanic family at the age of 18 as a female we are not allowed to do as we please regardless whether society says that we are considered adults. As long as we live in our parents household we still have to follow their guidelines. For others is different, they’re able to come and go as they please. People may disagree but in reality our opinions don’t matter.

On the spectrum moral stance I’d say I place myself as an ethical relativist. “Ethical relativism states that there is no universal moral code- that each culture will do what is right for it, and no other culture has any business interfering” (Rosendstand, 2016). Living in a diverse nation we learn to accept and respect peoples differences. We ultimately cant interfere or oppose to their customs or beliefs. People from different cultures will follow what they were taught and continue to follow their traditions and beliefs. They may make certain adjustments in life so that they live the life they want. In the end people are going to make their choices regardless of anyone’s opinions. I think that whats important here is that we learn to live in a society where we respect other regardless of our customs and beliefs.
