Unfortunately, the US healthcare system is not being maximized to its full potential. Until changes are implemented, the system will remain on the same stagnant course or possibly spiral downwards. The first thing that comes to mind when discussing healthcare is the people. Healthcare is based around people and ensuring they are receiving the best care possible to fit their needs.

It is imperative to do a general overview of the current US healthcare system and find the areas that can be manageably changed. It all starts with the people and ensuring that useful data is being collected for clinical and administrative uses (U.S National Library of Medicine). Gathering patients’ health information and demographics can help determine where there are negative patterns and start the journey to a better system overall. This can establish the population and groups whose determinants of health are being most negatively impacted and the possible causes (Determinants of Health).

It is also important to look at the financial aspect of the US healthcare system. This has many different areas of focus but ensuring that cost-effectiveness is being accounted for is critical. Are there areas where unnecessary costs are being implemented? Is there a better way to manage cost-effectiveness as a whole? These are some of the questions that should be asked and backed up with data to show a clear picture of what is happening. There is always a more efficient way to manage costs. Healthcare has majorly advanced over the past couple of years, and one cost-effective implementation can be used through the technological aspect of things. Ensuring that systems are easily manageable while also saving costs is crucial to a positive change.

The US healthcare system has a lot of room for improvement. As stated, it all starts with the people and determining their needs and what can be done to better serve them. Reestablishing policies and making changes that can better align with the current demands is imperative. It is also important that cost-effectiveness is largely analyzed in the US to find areas where important decisions can be made. Healthcare is universal and everyone has a need for it. It is important that effective changes are made so the system can be more efficient.

The US healthcare system is one of the worst-ranked healthcare systems amongst the high-income nations based on the factor of efficiency. The US healthcare system has been involved in high spending of taxpayers' money in the health care industry, but there has not been a perceived high rate on the investment made by the government. Various factors have brought about the lack of efficiency in the health care systems of the country. The factors include the lack of government control and decision-making in various health care providers' systems, such as the determination of drug and medication prices. The approach used by the health care system in the country is a free-market model. As such, the prices are determined by the negotiations and agreements made between patients, clients, and health care providers. Also, there is a perceived increase in the aging population, leading to increased cost of medical care because of a need to be hospitalized. Besides, it has been caused by the increase of chronic health issues among the country's population, thus making it impossible to meet the service costs of all people in the country suffering from chronic health issues. Therefore as a healthcare policymaker, I will provide strategies that will be used and applied to ensure efficiency in the healthcare systems (Shrank, Rogstad & Parekh, 2019). There will be a need to create and develop policies that will require identifying health care providers involved in the overtreatment of health issues, thus increasing medical costs. In addition, there is a need to develop policies that address the implementation of safety and quality medical care across the healthcare system. The policies will ensure that healthcare providers' different human mistakes and errors are reduced because they contribute to increased costs of medical care for patients with terminal health issues (Abolghasem, Toloo & Amézquita, 2019). There is a need to increase the participation of the government in the different health care providers’ services, such as insurance covers for medical care. The government will provide for policies that tame cases of fraud and abuse in the billing systems. Some health care providers have been involved in scams and schemes which do not provide the right billing as required. The patient ends up paying more for medical care for health issues that were not diagnosed. As such, patients will be able to benefit from reduced medical care costs in the health care system.
