.) It has been stated that some employees are more engaged than others due to two factors gender and age (Strauss, 2016). According to a survey conducted in 2015; men appear to be engaged more than their female counter parts 72.7% to 67.9% (Strauss, 2016). Also in comparison, about 30% of the male subjects revealed that they contributed at work while 24.6% of women were found to (Strauss, 2016). This occurrence has been credited to be as a result of gender pay gap disparity (Strauss, 2016). The survey also provided insight about hostility which was about 12.2% and disengagement about 17% (Strauss, 2016).
Other studies revealed that employees under 25 are engaged about 70.7%; where as employees 26 to 35 were only 67.3% (Strauss, 2016). Older age groups consisting of the ages 60 or older registered as 77.3% engaged at work (Strauss, 2016). This according to the author is usually the result of position level (Strauss, 2016).
.) Research has revealed that gender comparisons have acknowledged that pay disparity influences engagement. Also many studies explain that age contributes also. It has been stated that position level and position insecurity can also effect engagement levels. Personally, I agree with the research information. As a result, much of the information provided describes a lack of civility among employees.
.) As a result of factors that influence behavior at work such as job security and pay amount it can be measured how employees are more enthusiastic about working. I agree that such factors can effect engagement and determines an employee’s happiness and satisfaction.
.) In my opinion based on the information presented personality may be a small factor to influence an employees engagement at work. With the stress of keeping one’s position and competing for equal pay; there can be present a variety of personality factors.
.) Authors mostly have described a variety of stressful working conditions. Once these factors are discovered and exposed implemented changes can be made. One must be aware of such conditions to understand engagement levels in their organization.
