PEERS RESPONSE:

Describe the parts of incorporating research that you most struggle with (i.e., quotation, paraphrasing, in-text citation, and reference citation). Explain how you will work to master properly incorporating research, and why this is meaningful to your growth as a student and a professional.

I think sometimes I struggle with paraphrasing the most because we must read a lot of articles or journals, but it is an important skill any student should learn. By paraphrasing, students can express someone else’s ideas while still maintaining the main ideas of the original source through their own words. This is certainly what a student needs to learn because they need to support their arguments by referring to others’ existing literature. Some tips that I have followed that make good proper paraphrasing are trying to maintain its original meaning, the text orders are completely changed and flow well, crystal clear meaning of the paraphrase, and lastly is crediting or siting the source (Most Important) Paraphrasing is a form of translation; you are translating an idea in another "language" into your own language. The idea should be the same, but the words and sentence structure should be totally different.

What resources are available to you that you will use to ensure proper incorporation of outside sources? Ashford University, Assistance from your instructor or professor

Why is it important to accurately credit the author(s) of outside sources?

I just thing simply taking another writer's ideas and rephrasing them as one's own can be considered plagiarism. Paraphrasing is acceptable if you interpret and synthesize the information from your sources, rephrasing the ideas in your own words and adding citations at the sentence level, but it is NOT acceptable if you simply copy and paste large chunks of an original source and modify them slightly. To avoid plagiarism, I think it is important to document your sources correctly using an appropriate APA style and add a reference page to all assignments.

Sometimes writing a research paper feels intimidating at first because researching and writing a long paper requires a lot of time, effort, and organization. However, when I write a research paper, I try to make it a great opportunity to explore a topic that is particularly interesting to me. The research process allows me to gain expertise on a topic of my choice, and the writing process helps me remember what I have learned and understand it on a deeper level.
