KIMBERLY’S POST:
Topic 1 -Chapter 12
Select a corporation, labor union or other group that actively advertised for or against a federal candidate in the last election cycle. Prepare a written response that addresses the following questions:
Cambridge Analytica is the organization.
(1) Who did the group support? Cambridge Analytica supported the US Presential elections candidate Donald Trump.
(2) Why did the group support this candidate? Cambridge Analytica supported Trump because they wanted him to become the president. Cambridge Analytical was created when Steve Bannon approached conservative megadonors Rebekah and Robert Mercer to fund a political consulting firm. Bannon then became Vice President of Cambridge Analytica and he then reached out to the Trump campaign to introduce two sides.
(3) What type of advertising did the group use? The type of advertising used was Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, News, and other Internet sources.
(4) What was the nature of the advertisement? The company agenda was to persuade users to vote a certain way by showing different advertisements on the same issues to different people. Their goal was to obtain votes for the candidate.
(5) Was the advertisement consistent with the campaign strategy of the candidate? Yes, it was consistent with the campaign strategy. Facebook exposed data on up to 87 million Facebook users to a researcher who worked at Cambridge Analytica which worked for the Trump campaign to obtain votes for him.
(6) What was the ultimate outcome of the election? In what was considered one of the greatest upsets in American history, Trump took office as the 45th President and Pence as the 48th Vice President on January 20, 2017.
(7) What impact will this spending have on a candidate’s future decisions? I don’t think there will be an impact that will affect candidates’ future decision on spending because the Federal Election Commission collects information about campaign contributions and disbursements for candidates and political committees for each election cycle. A political action committee raise money for candidates and campaign.

Research the difference between a full and limited warranty. Locate copies of written warranties that you have received in connection with the purchase of at least 2 products. Review the warranties to determine which companies provide a full warranty and which companies provide a limited warranty. Summarize your findings and discuss your impressions of the use of such warranties.
Full Warranty means that the coverage meets the federal minimum standards for comprehensive warranties. Limited Warranty is a warranty that guarantees anything less than a full warranty.
A full warranty means that the manufacturer or seller will repair the item for free during the warranty period as promised to the customer. If the company is unable to fix the problem in a reasonable number of attempts and time, it must replace the item or give a full refund to the customer. A limited warranty is limited to specific parts of the product, certain types of defect and other limitations. It can also include a provision that restricts implied warranties to the length of the limited warranty.
Two written warranties that are received during the purchase of products are express warranties and implied warranties. Express warranties are statements in a written or verbal format that provides a guarantee of a certain level of functionality and quality of the product for a specified period. An implied warranty is a basic warranty that is provided with all consumer products and states that a product will function as advertised by the company.
Full warranties can only be provided by companies, which provide warranty coverage to any owner of the product and not just the initial purchaser. It must also keep the warranty service unchanged including the costs associated with shipping the defective product. However, companies can provide limited warranties that extend the service only to the original purchaser of the product or the customer.
Both warranties are beneficial to both customers and business owners as they set expectations for the products. The customers know what the product will offer and whether they need to fix or return them. Companies state in their claim in a printed format the things they will cover, therefore customers can turn to them for fixing or return of such defect only. This protects both parties. Warranties also encourage repeat sales by building trust with the customers.

Research how Toyota handled complaints that it received from 2008-2010 regarding runaway acceleration problems. Specifically, note how the company dealt with the vehicle problem, those directly impacted by acceleration issues, and its own shareholders and employees. Compare Toyota’s response to Johnson & Johnson’s response to the Tylenol crisis. Based on this comparison, evaluate Toyota’s response.
· What did the company do right? What Toyota did right was recall all the cars to check. In its efforts to help deter serious accidents and reduce damage caused by misapplication of the accelerator, in 2012 Toyota introduced Intelligent Clearance Sonar. Toyota's newly developed function aims to control acceleration due to abnormal operation of the accelerator even when no obstacles are present.
· What should it have done differently? Toyota should have made sure that they had enough staff to adequately check these vehicles to assure that they were safe for the customers. One of the biggest lessons that Toyota sudden acceleration teaches, is that the NHTSA needs to transform itself into a tech savvy entity. The staff, equipment and facilities of the NHTSA must be conducive to working with cutting edge automotive technology or it will not be able to carry out its function. Some defects may be avoided by specific safety standards that address computerized vehicles.
· How could a company that had been held out as an exemplar of product quality produce over 8 million vehicles with safety issues? The company should have provided certificates indicating that every vehicle that sells is compliant with current federal regulations. Because of this incident, Toyota is finding that the costs of losing their focus on quality are very high indeed and to their credit, they are implementing serious countermeasures.

Review the warranties to determine which companies provide a full warranty and which companies provide a limited warranty. Summarize your findings and discuss your impressions of the use of such warranties.
Full warranty means the overage meets the federal minimum standards for comprehensive warranties and will over basically everything on that product for a specific time frame. Limited warrant means the coverage does not and only specific items or repairs are covered.
Full warranty example attached is for a vehicle. If I was to buy a vehicle and it is still have the dealer warranty it will be no problem to know that if anything is wrong with this vehicle I can go and get it repaired at no cost. It is for the entire vehicle including but not limited to the interior or exterior.
Limited warranty example is this product limited warranty. It gives you option on each section on what you would like covered and the limit of months it would be covered. It basically your option if you want the coverage. You have option if you want the coverage or not.

· What did the company do right? I think the company owned up to there mistakes and after a long period of time.
· What should it have done differently? It took the company several years to admit their wrong doings or defect. I think it knew several years before they owned their defect of the vehicle. They were avoiding the situation even with the deaths of others because it was going to be a lot of money.
· How could a company that had been held out as an exemplar of product quality produce over 8 million vehicles with safety issues? The issue to me is that it is man made and everyone is entitled to make mistakes but to own your mistake is a different situation to do sometimes.

What are several of the most important environmental issues now receiving worldwide attention?
The most important environmental issues now receiving worldwide attention is global warming and climate change, water pollution.
Global warming is increase in the overall temperature of the earth’s atmosphere generally attributed to the greenhouse effect caused by increased levels of carbon dioxide, chlorofluorocarbons, and other pollutants. This will effect the earths temperature due to the levels of carbon dioxide. It has been something that has not been taken serious for a long time, but it has been warn for a while.
Climate change is the long-term alteration of temperature and typical weather patterns in a place. The reason for the climate change is burning coal, oil and gas produces bad things in the air. Cutting down forest, increasing livestock farming are causes for the climate change also.
Water pollution is the release of substances into bodies of water that makes water unsafe for human use. Water pollution has been a national awareness due to the water pollution in Flint, Michigan.
