Overview

For this optional assignment you will offer your services as a peer reviewer for other students in the class. This is in addition to the required peer review work of the class. If you choose to be a peer reviewer, you will sign up and be “on-call” throughout the semester. There are two ways you could potentially review other students’ work: either they turn in work to be edited directly (all students will have the option to send their papers to a reviewer) or I will pass along papers in need of editing myself. You may be editing a range of documents: from proposals, reports, memos, reading responses, or full-length essays. Your goal, when you receive an assignment, is to read through their work as “one last pair of eyes” before they turn it into me. You will also be required to fill out a worksheet that accompanies the edited document.

Specifics

Here are the following criteria for the technical editing services requirement:

1) You must sign up to be a peer reviewer for the semester

2) After being assigned a piece of writing (either by me or directly by one of your peers), you must read through it and offer commentary, advice, and feedback on the piece of writing

3) You must fill out the “peer reviewer worksheet” after you edit their document, one copy of which will go to me, and another copy will go to your classmate, along with your edits

4) You only need to do one for this to be “complete” though you are welcome to help your peers as many times as you please
