Human Nutrition
Websites rich in nutrition and health information:
Chiphealth.com https://chiphealth.com/
I knew about this website before hand because I am familiar with the CHIP lifestyle and their programs from my church so I chose this website and got to learn more about it since I have never actually visited it before.
The Who: The website and program was created by DR. Hans Diehl, DrHsc, MPH from the Lifestyle Medicine Institute.
The When: It read Copyright 2019 telling me it is up to date and I also know it is up to date since I know about some local programs that will be starting in June and will run until July.
The What: This website provides information on how to get involved in changing your life for the better, living younger and dying older, as Dr. Hans Diehl mentions in the website, by going through a complete health improvement program. The program helps one incorporate more of the healthier foods into ones life but also talks about exercise, sleep, moods, spiritual living and more, to either prevent or reverse certain diseases like diabetes and heart disease for example also earning it the title coronary health improvement project.
The Where: There are 52 scientific articles on the website itself and around a dozen professionals at the tips of ones finger. These are medical professionals that have done their research and not only that, have put it into practice and the website shows testimonies from people who have gone through the program(s).
The Why: This website was mostly created for individuals that are really looking for a change in their lifestyle by offering programs to doctors, teachers and every day people like you and me. I know that they are partnering with schools and have a partnership with Lee Health and are improving things here locally.
I would rate this website an 8. I do like how simple it is and straight to the point but I think more information on the programs and other advice might be better for visiting personnel.
health.com/nutrition https://www.health.com/nutrition
This website looked more of like an informative type of website on what is going on in the world based on nutrition and what is popular now, like hummus, and such. The format was just lots of different articles on different topics.
The Who: This website is incorporated by the Meredith Health Group copyright 2019 by Meredith Corporation. This website seems to me more like a magazine type of website with lots of different articles on different topics.
The When: Copyright 2019 and seems up to date based on the titles of the articles, for instance one was about Megan Markle and Prince Harry wanting to raise their new born son vegan.
The What: If you want entertaining news on nutrition and see what is popular and what celebrities are doing, this website would be for you. I did see one article so far by a doctor but that was paid content, which to me I believe it is other resources or websites paying to have their information displayed in this website and by the looks of it when I followed the link they are offering a subscription type of service for information as well.
The Where: The articles seem to be coming from editors that look into the subject of nutrition and health but more on the trendy end and what is going on in Hollywood. There were few articles by actual credentialed doctors.
The Why: This seemed, and probably is I am not fully aware, like a magazine as it had an option to subscribe to it which I believe the subscription gives you recipes and probably more information on nutrition and what is trendy at the moment.
I would rate this website a 3. I do not think I would trust information coming from Hollywood and what celebrities are doing since that is not really where my interest lies and there was just not a lot by real doctors or anyone I would trust listening to.
Familydoctor.org https://familydoctor.org/
This website seemed more medically intuitive and like it had real information that was more credible than the last. They had a topic of the month and then different links and articles to provide more insight and resources.
The Who: The website right away lists that it is “Trusted medical advice from the American Academy of Family Physicians” which tells me it is run by that group and the information must come from the physicians in the academy or at least most of it.
The When: Showed 2019 at the bottom of the website and a lot of the articles were published recently if not in 2018 and they have monthly up dates so I will say it is quite up to date.
The What: Lots of information on different topics that are related to health in the broader spectrum and nutrition is offered in this website. Lots of advice and resources and links to other websites depending on what one is looking for is also provided telling me this is more of an informative type of website.
The Where: The articles are written by physicians and they provided their resources on where they got their information as well.
The Why: This website was provided to give trusted information to the public by real doctors. There is just loads of information and resources in this one website and since it is powered by the AAFP it is said to be trusted and reliable.
I would rate this website a 9. I like the reliability of real doctors writing the information. It is overwhelming of how much information there is but they did a good job breaking everything down into sections.
Nutrition experts in the media:
Dr. Hans Diehl, DrHSC, MPH
I chose this doctor and nutrition expert because I have actually met this person and seen them talk live and seen the outcome of their work right in front of my eyes. I first heard about the program he leads and works with maybe 2 or 3 years ago and have known about this doctor for a year. I believe he has come here locally to VegFest, the one last year. Dr. Hans Diehl has been chosen as one of the U.S. 20 superheroes when it comes to health. He is a best selling author, researcher, speaker and clinical professor of preventative medicine at Loma Linda University in California. He has worked for more than 25 years in leadership in the emerging field of lifestyle medicine as an epidemiologist and has helped more than 50,000 people improve their lifestyles when it came to health and nutrition. He has also written over 8 books on the subject and today works with CHIP, coronary health improvement project and because of those accomplishments and his expertise I do find him reliable.

Christy Brissette, MS, RD
I came across Christy Brissette while researching for this assignment as I am not familiar with other nutritional experts that are in the media besides Dr. Hans Diehl and Dr. Darren Morton, but he is from Australia so I did not know him, and the other experts I know, while they are locally known by some are not widely known by the media. Brissette is an award winning registered dietician and nutrition and food communications expert considered one of the U.S’s leading nutrition experts. She is president of 80twentynutrition, a Chicago-based nutrition and food consulting company where she gives counsel on how to manage weight and how to eat when one has diabetes for instance. She contributes to many monthly columns with recipes and information to debunk this “dieting” trend and the publics confusion on food and how it can help us. Since she is not a doctor and I am not sure if her information is really medically based or just her opinion I will not deem her reliable enough for me. I would also like to see more accomplishments in real lives and not just media awareness.
