Supervisor Support Training and the Effect it has on the Employee Retention Rate Procedures for a Comprehensive Analysis

This is the procedure of converting written data such as observation filed notes and interviews into findings. Whereby in this case this is the data that was collected. There are different methods of QDA, there can be theory based, case study, participatory and collaborative approach. Involving other parties will help to make the findings more trustworthy and useful for the study. The research is basically the observation of the effects of supervisor support training has on employee retention rate (Harding 2018). Therefore, there are four areas that will be the focus of this QDA, namely organizing data, Coding and Thematic Development, Triangulation and Using Software Application.

Organizing Data

This step involves the labeling and archiving of data. Organization of data makes it easy for the analysis at the end. This means that all data needs to be labelled, to know how it was collected and where it came from. Additionally, a database/archive is important to make the data easy to find, this can be effectively done with programs, such as excel or copies of paper in a lever arch file (Harding 2018). The data should have basic information; name of researcher. Interviewee, ethnographer, location of interview, date and time of interview and methods used (which are observation, interviews and literature review of company data). At this point an archive needs to be recorded, with a unique system of identification, a good filling system and a record database for the basic information.

Coding and Thematic Development

A code is a method of data organization based on the subject matter, a theme is a broad topic or category appearing in the data. Colored pens of highlighters can be used to code different ideas or themes that appear in the data. This process involves reading the data several times before it can be coded completely. Take for example in this case, a code can be employee retention and a specific code might be high employee retention rate. This step is more than simply organizing data, because it is important in the process systematic analysis, which will establish the findings in the data and establish the relationship between the codes and the data, and the data patterns. A codebook should be developed at the end of this stage, whereby it can be fulfilled manually or using a computer program (Fisher 2017).

Triangulation

This step is important in the impact and evaluation assessment process. In this step multiple methods and perspectives with different data sources are combined so that the results of the research can be cross-checked (Friese 2019). Basically, at this moment it is clear that there will large amount of different types of qualitative data, data triangulation is important at this instance. What happens is that different perspectives and information about the topic of evaluation is provided. At this point different sources of data are checked so that it can establish one narrative of the data. Data from Interviews, Observation, Literature review from company sources, and ethnographers as secondary data, need to be checked to establish if they have the same narrative. That is data triangulation.

Using Software Applications

Software applications are important in every of the steps mentioned but at the same time using manual/ physical techniques, might take time but it is more efficient as one will be able to grasp the main idea of the data. This will help when it comes to presenting the data at the end (Fisher, 2017). As seen before software applications such as Microsoft excel is useful in this case to help in the organization of the data which makes it easy to go to the other stages in Qualitative Data Analysis.

Conclusion

Organizing Data, Coding and Thematic Development, Triangulation and Using Software Application will be the focus in researching supervisor support training and the effect it has on the employee retention rate (Harding 2018).
