Overview of Assignment

Throughout the semester students have been reading and discussing the book Paying for the Party: How College Maintains Inequality. Students will incorporate course readings, discussions and their personal college experiences to develop an essay on this book. Papers should identify the main themes of the book and demonstrate how such themes relate to course concepts and their own college experience so far. Students should critically analyze the book and the applicability of its themes to their experiences. Paying for the Party papers will account for 10% of the overall grade in the course.

Assignment Guidelines

Papers need to be structured in an academic format, including an introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Students should provide clear connections between the book and course themes, readings, and personal college experiences. The assignment is due on November 12th, 2019 at midnight. The paper should be submitted through Canvas as a word document (doc or docx). Please allow for a period of two weeks to grade and post received grades on Canvas. Students may notify discussion leader about grades 24 hours following the posting of grades on Canvas with any issues with grades and a meeting will be arranged to review the paper.
