Health and healing
Paper should be written and submitted as a group. Tips for writing group papers is included below.
Paper needs to be evidence-based and scholarly (include sources and citations). Sources should be current, relevant, reputable, and accurate.
Paper should be written following APA 7th edition. For students who are unsure what APA 7th edition requires or are new to academic writing, see resources included below.
Paper should follow an academic paper format, including an introductory paragraph (with a thesis statement), body paragraphs, and a conclusion paragraph.
Paper should include a title page and reference page.
Paper should be a maximum of 6 pages (not including title page and reference pages). Students are encouraged to utilize all 6 pages to ensure breadth and depth of analysis and to include all paper expectations.
Steps when writing your paper:
Review all resources used for Part A and Part B of this assignment. As a group, seek out additional resources related to your assigned chronic health condition, your client scenario, and Nursing Advocacy.
Ensure all chosen resources are specific to Nursing Advocacy and not to other health care disciplines.
In your paper, include the following:
Briefly describe your chronic health condition and client situation/scenario.
Briefly define advocacy in nursing and describe how advocacy relates to your chronic health condition and your client scenario. Ensure the definition you choose is supported with evidence (include resources as support) and isn't your own personal definition.
Identify an issue/problem/event that your client is experiencing that can be solved through advocacy. The issue/problem/event can be the same as the ones used in Part B, but this isn't absolutely necessary. The identified issue should clearly relate to nursing, to your assigned chronic health condition and to your client scenario. Clearly state the problem or issue that requires advocacy and how advocacy will help.
Choose TWO advocacy strategies that will help support your client. One strategy should be at an individual (client) level and one should be at an organizational (systems) level. Individual level (client) advocacy is narrower and more specific to your individual client. Organizational (systems) level advocacy is much broader and might support other clients as well. Ensure that both strategies are directly related to nursing and to your client scenario.
Explain why these strategies are the most appropriate for your client and their chronic health condition. Be detailed, specific and describe exactly how a nurse would enact these strategies and how it will help the client.
Demonstrate evidence-based practice by supporting your chosen advocacy strategies with resources (sources). All nursing actions should be evidence-based and this includes patient advocacy. Resources need to be credible, relevant, and timely. Use in-text citations following APA 7th edition.
For EACH strategy being implemented, choose a CNO Code of Conduct principle that relates to this strategy. Explain how and why the chosen principle relates to the advocacy strategy.

Academic Paper Resources and Tips:
Follow the rubric that is provided when writing your paper.
Introduction: Your introductory paragraph should briefly outline your paper and include a thesis statement. A thesis statement highlights what your paper is going to be about or the main points in your paper. Introductory paragraphs are usually no more than half a page in length.
Conclusion: Your conclusion paragraph should be a summary of your paper (do not introduce new thoughts or evidence). Conclusion paragraphs are usually no more than half a page in length.
Body paragraphs: Every time you introduce a new topic/idea/content, you should start a new body paragraph. Body paragraphs should relate back to the thesis statement and should be the bulk of your paper (most of your paper will be body paragraphs). Although not absolutely necessary, your body paragraphs could be broken down like this:
Body paragraph 1: description of chronic health condition and client scenario. Remember that this should be brief, so don't spend too much time explaining this. This paper is about client advocacy, so the majority of your paper should focus on advocacy.
Body paragraph 2: definition of advocacy in nursing and how advocacy relates to chronic health condition and client scenario. This paragraph can also include the issue/problem/event that your client is experiencing that can be solved through advocacy.
Body paragraph 3: First advocacy strategy (including a thorough explanation, evidence to support, and CNO Code of Conduct principle).
Body paragraph 4: Second advocacy strategy (including a thorough explanation, evidence to support, and CNO Code of Conduct principle).

Suggested tips for group writing:
Writing as a group can be challenging as different writers have various styles, approaches, and work habits that can make collaboration difficult. Here are a few strategies for managing collaborative writing projects.
Decide on big ideas as a group. Everyone should be involved during brainstorming, gathering research, and creating a structured outline. Each group member should have a clear understanding of how the different parts of the paper will come together.
Address questions and concerns early. Misunderstandings can lead to massive rewrites, so ensure everyone is clear regarding the content, structure, and expectations of the paper first.
Don’t divide the work too soon. It can be tempting to delegate parts of a project immediately, but effective groups first address the big ideas for the project before breaking it into smaller parts.
Write together, if possible. Though it can be challenging to coordinate, writing together as a group has several advantages. It ensures the writing overall is cohesive and coherent and it prevents ideas from contradicting or being confusing. If it’s not possible to write together, consider working on a collaborative document like Google Docs that allows you to edit in real-time that everyone in the group can access.
Address big issues when revising and editing before smaller concerns. Big issues include content, argumentation, logical order of ideas, and evidence. Smaller concerns include transitional phrases, coherence, formatting, grammatical errors, and citation formats.
Meet regularly as a team. This can be in person or online/virtual.
Use a shared calendar to keep everyone informed of deadlines and help everyone keep track.
Consider making a task or project list with all the steps necessary to complete the paper. This can help you track your progress and helps everyone stay on the same page. Doing this in the beginning of the project as a group can also help everyone grasp the scope of the project, which might help minimize writing anxiety and procrastination.
Maintain a consistent, but sustainable, writing/working hours. Hold yourself and your team to a consistent, but sustainable, work schedule. This can help group members manage their own schedules while still prioritizing the group’s deadlines.
For example, keep the same meeting day and time for the group every week. Much like attending class, setting a consistent meeting time ensures that you prioritize the group project as opposed to “finding time” to do it. This also helps the group guarantee a minimum amount of time has been spent working on the project.
Be flexible. What might have worked at the earlier stages of the project might not work for the final stages, so be open to modifying your group’s process. The writing process is iterative–meaning it doesn’t always go in a linear path–but as long as you have a clear shared goals and approaches, collaborative writing can be manageable.
