Original Post 1 What is deontologism, and how is it different from consequentialism?
Deontologism beleives in human dignity, it is the believe that people have sacred value by just being human. Consequentialism in the other hand would allow for an individual to hurt a person if such action would lead to maximising happiness and minimizing pain. Deontologism and Immanuel Kant approach life with the persective that we should respect one another and have a duty towards rational autonomous agents. The belive is some times seenr ather extreme because base on Deontoly fundamentals we are required to give everyone full respect merely because they are human. This view can be problematic because it puts a lot of value on something we didn't get to choose or a say on(existing as humans). It seems rather silly to treat a good friend who I treasure with the same respect and values than someone who is a murdered with wicked intentions towards me and my loved ones.
Original Post 2 "Explain how a Kantian ethic and a utilitarian ethic would respond in different ways to the moral difficulty posed by slavery."
Kantian ethics and utilitarian ethic would respond differently in matters regarding slavery. Kantian ethics proposes that we should treat all rational beings with respect, and that is their dignity. Everyone has the right to think rationally and make up their own decisions; we should not intervene in other people's spheres. Hence, slavery is wrong in Kantian's view because they are treated like animals and cannot make their own decisions. They cannot act according to their free and rational views and being used as a means to an end. Kantians rule this unacceptable.
On the other hand, utilitarians may think slavery is right if it maximizes the overall happiness. Slavery helps minimize other people's pain and inconveniences, so it should be permitted.
