Part 4

Construct a Story Map of your research on a problem (of your choice) that's related to issues covered or relevant to this course - preferably something that you're interested in or curious about, and that you can relate to the course in some way.  (Risk, vulnerability, etc.)

Follow the specific instructions below. Please do not write a generic paper. Instead, divide your project into specific sections that clearly, concisely answer the following questions:

(1) Introduction: (8 points)

Introduce your problem, describe the major/relevant issues and identify your research questions.

-what are you researching?

-what are the major/relevant themes/issues mentioned in what you’ve found? (3-6 total)

-why are you choosing to focus on it in this course? (your justification)

-what are a few (2-3) questions you used to guide your research? (research questions)

Minimum Design Requirements:  > 3 images, at least one "map" or infographic (can be theoretical or cognitive)

(2) Annotated Section: 8 - 10 sources total  (12 points)

Cite and annotate (make notes about) 8 -10 sources. List the source (author, date, title, journal, publisher, and URL if its a website), then answer the following questions about each source:

-what is the source about, or what is the author’s point?

-how does this specific source contribute to your research? What did you learn from it?

Minimum Design Requirements: 1 image/graphic per source, > 8 images total.

(3) Interpretation and Practical Application: (10 Points)

Finally, summarize the findings from your research and conclude your story with a practical application. Try to use examples, analogies, etc. as you answer these questions:

-Having completed your research, what have you learned?

-What does what you’ve learned have to do with themes, concepts or issues we’ve covered in class? Or, what claims can you make about your problem and Hazards, Disasters and/or Risk more generally?

-Provide an example of a practical application (policy, intervention, app, or another format). How would it reduce vulnerability?

Minimum Design Requirements: At least 1 graphic per section with a complete, well-written interpretation/conclusion, and thoughtful application.

Details:  You must post this assignment to Canvas (in the “Final Story Map” Assignment) by Monday of finals week at midnight.

You must both produce the academic content and achieve the minimum design specifications to achieve credit for each section.

(Everything you submit must be in your own words. Plagiarism and quoting or using images without attribution will result in a zero for the section, and might lead to communication with the OSU Office of Student Conduct)

Do your best to address each component or question. Sloppy grammar, spelling, design, and formatting detract from your total score.

*Please be sure to make your Story Map "Public" by selecting the planet/globe box in the upper left corner of the story map interface, then "visualize" your project (which opens it into a separate window) and submit that link (from the new window - outside your editor) to Canvas in the Final Story Map assignment.
