Transfer Exploration

I intend to transfer to UCI Paul Merage School of Business. In addition, the course which I intend to undertake is BA in Business Administration. Upon researching the school’s website, I am now satisfied that this is the school and program that I wish to transfer to. I have chosen this school because of many reasons. For starters, the school offers a unique opportunity for transferring students to join the school by setting an average GPA score. According to the UCI’s website, the required minimum GPA for a junior level transfer is 3.0 (UCI, n.d). This minimum GPA score is attainable for most students opting for a transfer. As for my case, I have plans to ensure that I have maintained a minimum GPA of 3.0 in order to be assured of a successful transfer. Furthermore, the university requires that one should satisfactorily complete basic courses in calculus, economics, and statistics and accounting (UCI, n.d).

The second reason is that the university offers a career coaching and connections opportunity to its students. This will allow me to develop in my field of study during interaction with experienced professionals working in various firms.

I have a worked out plan on how to meet the minimum requirements of this school and program transfer. First, I will focus ensuring that my GPA is always above 3.0. This will guarantee that I have met the minimum requirements. By ensuring that my GPA is acceptable, the other requirements for the basic courses will have been satisfactorily met. I also noted that the university has an option for students to take Management 1 course within the university (UCI, n.d). Other lower division management courses, such as accounting Management 7 will have to be completed prior to the transfer. Therefore, I will use these requirements as my checklists for my fulfilment of the requirements. In addition, I intend to gather further information concerning the course by contacting the faculty information center. This way, I will be prepared to with all the requirements.

Community Service Exploration

Bringing positive change to one’s community is something that everybody wishes for. However, knowing the right way to do this is the most difficult part. This is mainly because one does not know how to contribute to the society. Through this exercise, I identified two charity organizations which I would like to join. These are Environmental and Energy Study Institute and the Arthritis National Research Foundation.

I express interest in joining the Environmental and Energy Study Institute because of a number of reasons. First, this charity organization’s mission resonates with my interests in promoting a sustainable environment. Furthermore, the organizations overall score is 100 which also corresponds to its transparency rating. This means that my contributions will be used for the purposes which the organization sets out to achieve. Above all, I believe that it is through conserving our environment that many problems such as poverty and diseases can be controlled. In future, my philanthropic acts will lead me to form a world-wide network of environmental conservation organizations to advocate for a clean environment.

Another organization that I selected is the Arthritis National Research Foundation. This organization furthers research into human being’s welfare. I chose this organization because it aligns with my philanthropic interests. I do value life and I believe that everybody deserves a happy life. This is why I want to contribute to research which will advance cures to make the lives of people with Arthritis better. This is yet another opportunity for me to directly contribute to research which is aimed at making the lives of fellow people to be bearable. I plan to increase my donations annually so as to boost research in this organization.

Cost of Living Exploration

I currently live in San Francisco and wish to live in Washington DC in the future. My projected income is $40,000. With this income, there are implications of living in the desired community. First, the cost of living is on average lower than that of San Francisco. The cost of rental housing is $2,111 which is $1401 less than that of San Francisco. Furthermore, transportation, food and health costs are 20%, 11%, and 16% lower in Washington DC than in San Francisco. On the other hand, the cost of entertainment is slightly higher in Washington DC than in San Francisco. The average school, rating for both cities is 6/10. Factoring in my savings needs and financial commitments, I need to adjust a number of aspects of my lifestyle.

Fast, by moving to Washington DC I will have automatically saved about 15% of the costs that I usually incur in San Francisco. However, there are other costs which need to be lowered. The first one is entertainment costs. I will limit entertainment to once a week. Thus, instead of going for entertainment, say the whole weekend, I can choose one day.

Furthermore, I will need to check on my travelling costs by using a bus in some cases instead of my personal car. This will contribute to a lower cost of travel from home to work and probably, school. All these commitments will help me to lower the cost of living, adding to the already reduced cost due to shifting to the new community. Ideally, Washington DC is an ideal community which will allow me to save money while living at a place of my aspiration.
