Part 2

As mentioned in the project background, feedback forms are a crucial part of development for all different types of businesses. When it comes to submitting manual feedback forms there is a couple of downfalls that can make the entire process much more difficult. Namely time, user error, and tampering with information. There are many factors that come into play when it comes to submitting surveys that can alter the results. For example, usually when you think of a survey it will ask how you feel about something and ask you to rate it 1-5, 1 being the lowest, and 5 being the highest. A 4 would be a great grade if the person was very impressed but not completely blown away. The issue is for some companies a 4/5 or 80% is not satisfactory, therefore some companies will raise the scale to possibly 1-7 or 1-10 as an attempt to get a more precise grade. The problem with this is that not all users are aware of how high the scale goes and may give a lower grade, thinking they are rating on a normal 1-5. Adding onto that, some companies use feedback forms where 1 is the highest rating and the higher the number the worse they feel. Another issue is you may get an employee who is willing to alter a few of the answers trying to increase credibility and overall results.

The digital solution that would eliminate many issues would be to just have the students submit these forms via email or mobile instead and give a small grade for completing the form that could help boost their grades slightly. Give them plenty of time to complete the survey, make sure they are aware the feedback form is required, and set clear expectations when it comes to the results. The reason I state to give the students plenty of time is so they do not feel rushed, and they can give clear, thoughtful feedback on how the class or university can improve. Adding a grade for completion of the feedback form would not only drive the students to want to finish it, but also would make them want to give better answers for a higher grade.

Since almost all college student’s have a mobile device or are at least provided an email from the school, completing the form through one of them makes it much easier and more comfortable for the students. The biggest factor online submission would affect would be the time it takes for these forms. The teacher wouldn’t have to hand them out, collect them, review them or mark the results for each of their classes. Instead all the data collected would automatically be compiled into one area and would be able to produce an overall grade for each question asked. The university would then be able to focus on the comment section by the students and build results from it.

The actual design would be simple, at the top of the form it would state that submissions are anonymous, and students will receive their grades upon completion of the feedback form. It would also layout the scaling system showing a scale of 1-5 with 5 being the best score. The top of the form would conclude by stating if any students need help filing the form to click here, and insert a clickable link that would explain the proper way to fill out the feedback form. The form itself would consist of a few basic questions such as how well do you feel the instructor(s) did at teaching the material taught in class, how do you feel about the course material assigned in class, etc. Also comments sections on every question asking for ways to improve. At the bottom there would be a submit button to turn in the answers.
