Week 5 Part 1

Leadership is defined in many different ways. It also looks different across a multitude of cultures. For exampleexample, leadership in for Christian is defined in the great commission found in Matthew 28:16-20 where Jesus commands his disciples to go and make disciples of every nation, baptizing them in the name of the father, son, and holy spirit. Jesus tells his follows to love their neighbors as their selves. This is the foundation of servant leadership. In other areas of the world there are people who are unable read or write and their direction and understanding comes from the “leaders” in the community. Afghanistan is a great example of this. It is no secret that the Taliban has had a grip on the people of Afghanistan for many many years and the propaganda that they are spreading is able to happen because of fear and the lack of understanding and education in that culture. Comment by Julie M Cober: Wording?

HoweverHowever, anyone can claim to be a leader, but a good leader has a solid and firm foundation set in values. Most of the basis of these foundational values can be found in individual, interpersonal, organizational, and societal perspectives.

From an Individual perspective the value that I use as a foundation in salvation. Trusting and knowing that God has a plan for me and my life is great, but if I do not seek him and walk the path that he has laid before me I will never know what it is. Society has all but tried to remove God from the work place, however this does not meantmean that we cannot glorify him by the way we act and treat others on a daily basis. My goal is for people to askask, ‘Why are you always so positive in some of the most stressful situation”? It gives me the opportunity to talk about how big and mighty my God is. Comment by Julie M Cober: Try to stick with instrumental values for this assignment, since instrumental ones are the ones that you will use on a daily basis.

The Interpersonal perspective that I have laid at the foundation is relationship management. Relationship Management is “the ability to build relationships based on mutual trust and respect”. (Goleman, .2018). Any foundation built upon trust is usually a foundation that has the ability to strengthen as it goes, but a foundation built upon dishonesty and disrespect is sure to crumble.

Next the Organizational perspective that I have laid on the foundation is employees satisfaction. To me the company or organization is only as good as the employees and unhappy employees make for an unpleasant experience for all. When the organization places the needs of their employees first there is a trickle downtrickle-down affecteffect that takes place and reaches the outside world as well. This, in turn, normally yields great results for the organization.

Last but not least is the societal perspective that I have at the foundation, and that is natural resources. The world’s population is growing rapidly. It was not until the early 1800s that we reach 1 billion people on Earth and now a little more that 200 years later we are at over 7.6 billion. The rate at which we are growing and using out natural resources is alarming and needs to be addressed on a global scale. Comment by Julie M Cober: This value and corresponding behaviors are unclear for this perspective. Remember to use instrumental values.

Whatever you have placed as the foundation for your leadership is key to how you will lead. As I stated earlier, any oneanyone can lead, but not everyone can be a good leader. The fundamentals of leadership isare serving those around you who will intern follow you and you can make an impact on them. Comment by Julie M Cober: Good start – a few revisions will be necessary for the final.
