Paris

Paris has always been my dream city of destination. Essentially, what interests me about the city, or more precisely my intention to one time visit the city is that Paris has for quite some time been ranked as the second most exclusive city in the entire world. This has particularly been supported by the Economist Intelligence Unit Worldwide Cost of Living Survey conducted in 2018 with Singapore being on the lead (Doersch). As the capital and the most heavily populated city of France, the city is well known as central hub for commercial activities and notably its museum and architectural landmarks. To be precise, amongst my ambitions to pay a visit to the city include visiting such places like the Eiffel Tower, the Louvre Museum and Père Lachaise Cemetery, learn more about its customs and traditions and lastly the living standards not only within the city but the country as a whole.

As aforementioned, being the capital city of the country, Paris is strategically located within northern central France and spreads widely on the banks of the English Channel i.e. La Manche (Doersch). After an elaborative and further research on this city, I came to realize that the city is comparatively flat with the lowest point being at 35 m a.s.l. (meters above sea level). Besides, its geography is also dominated by a number of prominent hills with the highest one being the Montmartre at 130 m (Doersch). Its climate is also exceptional and characterized by the Western European oceanic climate which is greatly influenced by the North Atlantic Current. Most certainly, it is as a result of these unique attributes that provides or rather gives the city increased preferential as a major point of destination among international tourists. French is considered as the official or national language in the country and largely spoken amongst all its cities.

Based on my ambition to visit the city sooner than later, my overall objective has been to learn and understand more about the country’s culture, customs and traditions including the demographics and organization of other cities within the country. The various articles I have read about the city and the country as whole including French Culture: Customs & Traditions, it is rather interesting to understand that most people tend to associate French culture with the city of Paris (Zimmermann). In other words, Paris has a major role in the entire foundation of the country. Clearly, and based on my personal research and assessment, Paris serves as the center of fashion, art, cuisine and architecture. As a matter of fact, a number of scholarly and mainstream explorations about the city have christened it as the “City of Lights” (Zimmermann). However, it is widely established that life outside the city is totally different and greatly varies from region to another.

In sum, the city of Paris certainly draws a high level of admiration from across the global populations. The people of France and in particular inhabitants the city of Paris takes immense pride in their nation and its government. To larger extents, people often get offended by any form of negative comments in regard to their motherland. In most cases, visitors wrongly interpret the peoples’ attitude especially towards foreigners as being rude. The French cuisine, fashion and clothing, and art including architecture are amongst the key tourist attractions attributes hence a key factors in its trade and commercialization aspects. As earlier indicated, my most preferred points of destination or more precisely areas keen on visiting while in the city include the Eiffel Tower, the Louvre Museum and Père Lachaise Cemetery. In essence, these are amongst the most visited sites not only in the country but in the entire world. My hopes are on actualizing my dreams very soon.
