Classroom management 2
Parental/Community Involvement
Parental involvement: Parental involvement is crucial to student success inside and outside of the classroom. To encourage parental involvement, I plan to get to know the parents. I plan to send home a parent letter at the beginning of the school year. I would like for this letter to open a line of communication between the parents and me.
• First Day Letters: o Before the first day of school, I would like to reach out to parents and
allow them to write a letter to the child for the first day of school. These letters will be placed on their child’s desk so they can see them when they walk into the classroom.
• Weekly Newsletter: o I plan to send home a weekly newsletter at the beginning of every week.
The newsletter will highlight everything that will be covered and any announcements.
• Parent Volunteers: o Whenever the class is doing big projects or lessons that require multiple
adult hands and monitoring, I would like to reach out to parents ahead of time and allow them the opportunity to assist me with the lesson. The parents would help pass out materials, monitor students, and clean up. They also could be parent volunteers for field trips.
Community Involvement: Like parental involvement, community involvement can be very beneficial to not only student success, but also the school success.
• Career Day: o For my students, the idea of what they would like to do in the future
seems far away. I would like to show my students that their goals are not too far off. I plan to talk with my students about what they would like to be, and then invite members of the community to speak about those careers.
• Reading Day: o As an educator, it is important for me to foster the love of reading in my
students. I would like to invite various members of the community (high schoolers, firefighter, police officers, etc.) to read with students.
