Use this planning sheet to outline and plan each of your body paragraphs with a supporting point (topic sentence) and examples/details that illustrate your supporting point. Write your tentative thesis statement in the first box. To plan each paragraph, write a clearly stated main supporting point in the next box. Then, list some possible examples and details that illustrate the main supporting point.
· What are the reasons or main supporting points for your thesis? These points should be your “P” or main points of each body P.I.E. paragraph.
· List some possible examples, details, and explanations you could add to the paragraph to illustrate/show what you mean by the supporting point sentence. If relevant, acknowledge opposing or alternative views in some body paragraphs; then either refute them in some way or concede if necessary. Your examples and explanations are your “I” and “E” of the P.I.E. paragraphs.

· How can you introduce what you’ve written? · Ease your target audience/readers into the topic by giving them enough information to establish your topic and the problem/issue. · Don’t get too detailed/specific yet. Save that for the body of the paper. · End the introduction with your assertive thesis statement. |
