math assignment
Paperwork and presentation.
Directions
The final project consists of a presentation and a paper due the last week of class. There are two types of projects to choose from:
1. An extension of a topic covered in the course, or
2. A topic in the text that was not covered in the course.
Choose a topic and find a current event or news article that discusses how the topic is applied to a real-world situation. For example, revisit the news articles used in the Week 1A Discussion Forum: Ranked Choice Voting and the application of graph theory in medicine presented in Week 4. If you pick an extension of a topic covered during the course, then you must research, and present new ideas related to that topic.
The project requires two deliverables: a paper and a presentation. Both should include the following:
· An overview of the topic
· A summary of the article
· An accurate explanation of the mathematical concepts presented in the article
· Further extension of the idea presented. For example:
· Can the ideas presented in the article be applied to a different situation?
· Can the application be taken further?
· Is further research recommended?
· What are the next steps that should be taken?
The paper should be 3-5 pages long and follow the writing standards stated in the syllabus. The presentation should be 10-15 minutes long and created using VoiceThread. The VoiceThread access link is located in the top section of the course site, and VoiceThread help, and tutorials are located in the Technology Help portal at the top of the course site.
Resources for Research
In addition to your article, you are expected to use credible sources to research background information about your topic. Below are some resources to help get you started, but you are not limited to just these resources.
