paper work
The Psy310 Final Paper will consist of a 2-page paper (double-spaced, 12-point Times New Roman font, left/right margins 1”, top/bottom margins 0.8”, saved as .docx .doc or .rtf). In addition to the 2 page paper, you are to include a Reference Section, listing your sources, on the 3rd page. You will, therefore, have a two page paper and an additional page for the Reference Section, for a total of three pages. The third page is to contain your Reference Page ONLY.
Note: IF you find that you absolutely can not get everything into two pages, then it’s okay to go a little bit over two pages, but do not make your paper more than two and a half pages. Then, if you go onto the third page, your Reference Section will be on a fourth page. At the top of the first page, in the upper left, single spaced, on the first line, type your first and last name. On the second line, type "Final Paper, Psy310, Spring, 2020, R.Stephens, Instructor" Then begin double spacing as you compose your paper. In this paper you will: (Paragraph 1) define a concept that you learned in this class (e.g., gender/sexual discrimination, socioeconomic status/classism, ethnicity and race/racism, etc. These are basically the chapters in our textbook... the broad concepts relating to a pluralistic society); (Paragraph 2) describe and discuss in more depth the concept that you selected from our textbook and introduced in Paragraph 1; (Paragraph 3) describe an issue that affects people in areas of the world outside of the United States (e.g., social injustice, environmental issue, political issue, etc. These issues are NOT the same as the concept discussed in Paragraphs 1 and 2. They are issues that affect people globally, around the world, and these issues are impacted by the concept that you selected in Paragraph 1); and, (Paragraph 4) describe how the concept you learned in this class (described in Paragraphs 1 and 2) applies to understanding the global issue (described in Paragraph 3), and describe how to mitigate possible negative outcomes of the issue. Paragraph 4 should be about the relationship between the concept that you described in Paragraphs 1 and 2, and the global issue in countries other than the United States that you described in Paragraph 3.
IT IS VERY IMPORTANT THAT YOU USE TWO DIFFERENT CONCEPTS…..The first is the concept that you select from our textbook readings, and the second is a separate issue that is not from our textbook, but is an important GLOBAL issue, seen worldwide. The two need to be different. Do not, for example, select as the textbook/course concept the concept of socioeconomic status and then select as your global issue the issue of poverty. They are two similar in terms of the discussion that you need to create. Instead, if you select socioeconomic status as the course/textbook concept, then select something that is different for the global issue, such as access to quality education, or access to quality healthcare. (Do NOT type "Paragraph 1", "Paragraph 2", etc. at the beginning of each paragraph).
· Each paragraph should be at least 10 full length sentences in length, and Paragraph 4 will likely be longer. Your paper needs to be fully two pages in length. Try not to go over two pages, except to have your Reference Section as the third page. If you have to go onto a third page for your paper, it’s okay, but make it no more than two and a half pages, maximum, plus the Reference Section.
· You are to use at least 4 sources for this paper. Your textbook must be one of the sources that you use. The other sources must be journal articles or other quality academic or professional sources. Do NOT use Wikipedia, ask.com, Cliffnotes, or other general information sites like these.
· Do not use any direct quotations from any source. Instead, ALWAYS put the information from the source into your own words and then provide an APA Style citation for the source, and an APA Style reference section at the end of your paper. DO NOT PUT ANYTHING INTO QUOTATION MARKS!
· Each paragraph should have at least 2 APA style citations in parentheses (total of at least 8 citations in your paper). Citations go BEFORE the period of the sentence, not after.
· Your Reference Section, at the end of your paper, should have at least four different APA style reference listings, in alphabetical order, that correspond to your citations and sources.

· The paper is worth 200 points.
· The final paper is due by Tuesday, April 28, 2020, before 11:59 P.M.
· You must submit your Psy310 Final Paper before the deadline of Tuesday, 4/28/2020, 11:59 p.m. No late papers will be accepted for any reasons, excused or unexcused.
VERY IMPORTANT NOTE: This project is designed to be a global studies project! This means that it is very, very, very, very important that you discuss your selected concept and global issue in the context of areas outside of the United States. I am specifically looking, in Paragraphs 3 and 4, for research that you locate that discusses the global issue in places around the world. Include in your discussion research findings from specific areas in the regions of China or Southeast Asia or a country in South America or a country in Africa or Russia or which ever country/region you select. Discuss the findings in a country, not an entire continent. For example, you might investigate the effect of gender on poverty in South Viet Nam; or, you could look at the effect of racism on access to natural resources (i.e. clean water) in large urban areas in India; or, you could discover more about the effect of language on access to educational opportunities in the Chinese state of Sichuan; or, you could discuss the effects of gender on economic development in the Chinese state of Beijing. These are all just examples to help you begin thinking about how you will relate the concept that you find in the textbook to an issue of global concern in an area other than the United States. Paragraphs 3 and 4 need to relate to countries outside of the U.S.
Now, the following is an example outline for how to proceed with the development of this Psy310 Final Paper: Paragraph 1: Look at your course textbook. Look at the title of each chapter that we covered in this course. Choose one. That will be your concept from which you will work. In Paragraph 1, present the concept, and then define it, in your own words. Look up the term online, and read different definitions of the term. Take notes as you do. Then, using an electronic database such as PsycINFO, conduct a search using the concept as a key term. You will then be given numerous articles that relate to the concept. Select some of the articles that interest you the most, each related to the concept that you have chosen (i.e. socioeconomic status). In Paragraph 1, include some information about how that concept is defined, perhaps in different ways, depending on the context. Use APA Style citations to identify the sources that you have used to learn the information that you are sharing. Everything that you write must be in YOUR OWN WORDS. Do not use direct quotations, and do not copy anything from the source. Instead, read the source, understand what is being stated, and then put it into your own words and provide the citation that identifies the source to the reader. You'll then list more information about that source in your Reference Section at the end of your paper. Do not use a dictionary as one of your sources. It's fine to use a dictionary to learn for yourself the actual definition, but the definition that you provide in this paper needs to be more in-depth than just what a dictionary would provide. Paragraph 2: Continuing to discuss the concept that you selected (for example, socioeconomic status, share more information about that concept, based on information that you learn about it. Locate at least two really good academic sources (journal articles) that discuss the concept in-depth, and provide research-based information about it in Paragraph 2, again using APA citations, and listing your sources in your APA formatted Reference Section. This discussion in Paragraph 2 should be more in-depth than the discussion in Paragraph 1. In Paragraph 1, you are basically defining the concept, and it could be that you offer several different ways in which the concept is defined in the research. Then, in Paragraph 2, you are discussing the concept in terms of the research about it. In Paragraph 2, you are no longer defining it, you are discussing it and informing the reader about what the research shows about that concept. Paragraph 3: In Paragraph 3, you are to present a different concept that is not one that is found in the textbook. Instead, in this paragraph, you are going to present a different issue that is one that is represented world wide. It is an issue that countries all over the world are dealing with, such as, for example, economic instability and economic hardship, environmental issues, climate change, treatment of women, safety of refugees, political unrest, discrimination against immigrants, discrimination against LGBTQ individuals, access to healthcare, gun violence, threat of terrorism, threat of military aggression, threat of nuclear aggression, safety of nuclear energy facilities, dependence of fossil fuels, unemployment, exploitation of natural resources, educational quality, etc. These are issues that affect people all over the world, no matter the political climate or leadership. Select one of these global issues, and in Paragraph 3, present that issue by defining it, just as you did in defining the textbook/course concept in Paragraph 1. Use at least two sources for researching the meaning of the issue. Discuss whether or not this issue is defined differently depending on the country to which we are referring. Again, as in Paragraph 1, do not use a dictionary as one of your sources. The definition that you provide in this paper needs to be more in-depth than just a definition found in a dictionary. Paragraph 4: Paragraph 4 is the culmination of the first three paragraphs, and should be a bit longer, since it will be a bit more complex. You are to discuss how the concept that you learned in this class (for example, socioeconomic status) affects the global issue that you have selected. So, for example, if you were to select the global issue of access to heath care, you could discuss how, in different areas of the world, an individual's access to health care is or is not affected by their socioeconomic status. For example, in a country with universal health care, such as Canada, an individual's access to health care is not as affected by his/her socioeconomic status as a person in a country that has no universal health care coverage. You would locate research articles that provide specific research-based information about this, and you would then discuss what the research shows. You will need to again have at least two academic sources for your discussion, and you'll provide APA Style citations and you'll include more information about the sources in your APA formatted Reference Section. For this fourth paragraph, using the electronic database, you'll want to use two key terms (i.e. socioeconomic status and health care) AND you will want to also look for articles that relate to countries outside of the U.S.
