PAPER T hree (Final Paper) — Five Paragraph Contrasting Analytical Essay
Don’t try to write your paper using only this handout. There will be no example essay for this assignment ( use the Point-by-Point Contrast handouts to structure your essay ).
Paper Assignment: 1. Using the handouts provided in ‘content’, contrast Rupert Brooke’s The Soldier with Wilfred Owen’s Dulce et Decorum Est. Use the handouts in the Paper Three module in ‘content’ for your thesis, individual body paragraph points, and overall structure. Specifica lly, carefully follow the Point-by- Point Contrast handouts, both parts I and II .
DUE DATES for DRAFTS Complete ROUGH DRAFTS are due 11/29 , 11:30pm Late, incomplete, improperly formatted, or improperly submitted papers will not receive credit. FINAL DRAFTS are due by 12/8, by noon (12pm) Since this paper is your "final exam , " it counts at least 30% of your grade (and may count 40%--see syllabus). You must show me that you can execute all the rules of essay writing and produce a clear and logical analysis that is error free. Remember- -This one assignment will have a profound effect on your final grade. It can really boost poor scores, and it can also cause an A+ to become a D. Please get started, and please write your rough draft as if it were the final.
PAPER TWO “EXIT” QUIZ MUST successfully be completed, before the final draft dropbox for Paper Three will become visible in D2L. You must score a 71 or higher, before you can view the final draft dropbox. As with Paper One Quiz, you have unlimited attempts to successfully complete it. If you cannot submit your paper, because you have not successfully completed the PAPER TWO QUIZ, you will not receive credit. Email submissions will not be accepted.
SPECIFIC Paper Requirements: Same basic rules as the past papers--see exceptions below.
-- Five-p aragraph point-by-point contrast analytical essay (aka argumentative essay) that follows our guidelines. Use the ‘point-by-point contrast’ handouts for structure.
-- All of your quotes will be LONG FORM—This means all eight of your quotes (two more due to the framing quote requirement) will be in long format for quoting poetry. Follow the structure in the Point-by-Point Contrast handouts (and I highly suggest that you do). Make sure you follow the proper format for quoting poetry in long format (see Presenting Evidence, Part Three) -- You will also use a FRAMING QUOTE in your intro and concluding paragraphs. Use the handouts for this new concept.
-- As always, write in the third person, present tense, and active voice.
--You are REQUIRED to use the POINT-BY-POINT CONTRAST PAPER GUIDELINES to write this paper. Also, use all other handouts and information on D2L to help you structure and format your essay properly. Important note on consulting outside sources— It is best NOT to CONSULT ANY OUTSIDE SOURCE THAT EXPLAIN S OR ANALYZE S THE POEMS. USE ONLY THE POEMS, GUIDELINES, and your brain to come up with a main idea. You can do it! An y interpretive statements/ideas in handouts are yours to use in this paper. For the final paper, I actually provide you with a complete structure, main ideas, etc. in the handouts. Use them.
