Please write 100-150 words describing your proposed paper topic. Your paper can be about specific concepts (i.e., Jadidism, religious revival, Soviet religious policy, etc.), a case study of a particular event, or other topics that are pertinent to the class.

This brief description should include a description of the issue that you’re addressing, some background information about the context in which you plan to explore this issue, and a (relatively) clear research question (i.e., what is it that your paper is trying to answer? What is the “so what?”). While I am not expecting a mastery of the subject at this point, your prospectus should nevertheless demonstrate some evidence that you have put some thought into selecting a topic, and have begun to do some preliminary research.

I strongly recommend reviewing the syllabus and trying to find a subject that is interesting to you.

Please also include 3 potential sources that you are thinking about using. These sources should be books, academic journal articles, or policy/white papers. Please do not cite news websites, blogs, Wikipedia, or anything like that. You may only use one source from the syllabus.

At this point, you may use whichever citation style you’d like, as long as it gives me complete bibliographical information.
