I am proposing that there is a problem within the financial organization United Bank of Switzerland (UBS). The problem that I am proposing is that it’s hard for low ranking employees at UBS to move up in the organization. This is due to the lack of individual promotions, movement of individuals to other teams, and communication with high up officials in UBS about this problem. I learned about these problems when I spoke to low ranking employees during my internship with UBS last summer. These issues could be a part of many of the different topics that we look into in this class but for this paper I will be researching goal setting theory for this issue in UBS. I believe that the problem of moving up within UBS affects the goal setting theory. This is because if an employee knows it’s hard to move up within this organization he or she could experience a lack of motivation to do work intern affecting organizational commitment to UBS. According to my research UBS has recorded weaker earnings last quarter for its primary service wealth management. This may be because of the lack of commitment that low ranking employees have to the organization. If the issue that UBS has with the goal setting theory is resolved I am sure that UBS will experience higher earning within the organization as a whole.
