For this assignment I choose option 2 and the company I choose to research is General Motors (GM). General Motors is a company that manufactures and assembles cars, trucks, and SUV’s. General Motors's s has a host of brand mane cars we know now as Chevrolet, GMC, Buick, and Cadillac. I do feel as GM is a company that holds their employees to a high standard including key characteristics among them. From my reading, I see most General Motors employers seek persistent and proactive workers, which is a characteristic of innovative and creative employees as I do not believe proactive employees wait for things to occur; instead, they strive to make things happen. They tend to solve problems even before they occur, even when faced with adversity and challenges.

Another characteristic of General Motors employee’s is that they are opportunity-lead as they see opportunities instead of dead ends. They also tend to find a solution, even when there is not one. I personally believe Problem-focused employees are more likely to not succed and could be less innovative since they focus on solving existing problems, But opportunity focused on employees' opportunities and explored on those opportunities. GM employees show mental resilience, another ideal trait for creative and innovative employees (Kremer, 2019). Employees who respond positively to hardships and challenges and do not allow challenges to beat them tend to portray innovative behavior. They show mental resilience by withdrawing new and useful information from negative feedbacks.

GM employees are courageous and confident in their skills and abilities. Whenever needed to perform specific tasks, they come up with cost-efficient, practical, and creative solutions. They always present their solutions with lots of confidence and courage for evaluation without knowing the feedback. Innovative employees continually improve and learn from mistakes and failure; they do not get discouraged easily because they failed. Employees who learn from mistakes can foretell future errors. They also portray leadership skills by putting the company's needs before their own.

General Motors leaders should have a future vision; they should look at long-term goals instead of just aiming at instant success. However, most companies devote most of their time in paying attention to short-term goals, but as an innovative leader is mainly focused on the long-term goals. General Motors leaders should always desire to acquire more information knowing that applicable facts can initiate Innovation (Yun, 2020). General Motors leaders should always ask relevant questions and listen to other people's feedback without bias during normal work routines and meetings. The company leaders should emphasize employee collaboration and work together towards achieving the organization's objectives and goals. Innovative leaders always promote the inclusion and diversity of all people. They should ensure that a team is composed of people from different cultural, social, and economic backgrounds. This ensures that there are different opinions and experiences within a team, thus enhancing creativity and innovation.

Company leaders should empower team members to handle challenging problems and give their possible solutions to encourage innovation. Employees that come up with the best solutions should be rewarded to promote innovation. The company leaders challenge their employees to better their performance by always encouraging them to surpass their previous performances (Yun, 2020). The company leaders should adopt a management approach that is non-hierarchical so that team members can easily share their opinions and ideas with senior management. Company leaders should set timelines to effectively communicate essential tasks and milestones, pointing out priorities and directions. Leaders can reward and recognize employees who develop innovative ideas; this makes employees feel appreciated and motivated to meet their goals. The company leaders should model the employee's behaviors by leading as an example. Leaders must show clear vision, real drive, an optimistic and positive outlook, and always zealous about their job. Communication is key to promoting innovation; open communication where employees can easily express their ideas without the fear of not management. A leader should be approachable and open so that employees can easily express their views.

Employees must possess a variety of characteristics to be effective leaders. The two most important features are leading by example and demonstrating integrity. To earn other people's respect and build credibility as an employee, you should set the correct examples. A leader always portrays behavior that he wants others to follow. A leader should align his actions and words so that his team members can be willing to follow his example. Leaders with integrity critically think before making decisions and portray specific behavior that is unique. They have a distinct opinion on what is wrong and right, and they earn respect for being consistent, ethical, moral, and genuine. They communicate openly and have distinct characters.

Ideal organization culture is one that is characterized by various features. When decision-making involves all employees at different levels, collaboration and teamwork are valued. It has a strategic plan and a coherent mission, and employees are rewarded for their achievements and are not criticized after making mistakes. Collaboration is key to promoting innovative ideas, especially if the team is all-inclusive and diverse. A diverse and inclusive team ensures that people from different backgrounds work together to develop creative and innovative solutions. Allowing team members to make mistakes would encourage them to work outside their comfort zones. Conducting meetings where team members can state their mistakes, not criticize them, not find ways those mistakes can be rectified, and what led to those mistakes and steps they should have taken to avoid the error. An ideal organizational culture would dedicate some employees' working hours to new ideas and opinions. A good example is Google, a twenty percent policy that allows employees to take approximately twenty percent of their working hours and dedicate it to creating innovative and new ideas. This policy has led to Google's huge success.
