Does social media enhance or hinder interpersonal relationships?

For this argumentative paper, I am going to be presenting an argument that will give the answer

to the question, does social media enhance or hinder interpersonal relationship?

Premise 1: Social media is good because it is reliable for connecting people especially when it

comes to keeping in touch with friends and families who are far away.

Premise 2: Effective communication with family members and friends is a good way of

enhancing interpersonal relationships.

Conclusion: Therefore, social media enhances interpersonal relationships because effective

communication creates a strong connection between people who care about each other.

My position is strong and my findings are supported by facts on how social media has enhanced

the lives of the people who use it. Therefore, I will present an argument that shows the good side

of social media and hence how it enhances the interpersonal relationships of its users. I have

presented are reasonable premises which make it fair for me to use them as a representation of

my position.

Premise 1 exaplanation: In most occasions, keeping up with all or most family members and

friends may be difficult to most people. However, the establishment of social media platforms

like Facebook, Twitter, Instagram among others has brought a form relief. People have been able

to easily get in touch with family members because you can now easily search people on social

media and add each other friends’ list. On the other hand, there are some family members whom

maybe one has never meet them face to face, you can get to know about them through social

media. By communicating frequently and also checking on the present physical appearance of

your family members you get to create a strong and deep relationship. In addition, social media

has been widely known for connecting people who never even knew about each other. There are

people who start dating on social media and even end up marrying each other. Social media also

allows a person to create virtual friends from different places from all over the world. You can

share pictures to show different cultures and how people live in different places. DiBlaso has

brought a suggestion of bringing having a social application that allows people to know each

other through social media and physically meet in a restaurant to share a meal. This shows that

social media connects people who even never knew about each other. Therefore, I can indicate

that social media is a good platform that allows people to always keep in touch with family

members, friends and also creating new friends.

Premise 2 explanation: Communicating from time to time always you to have a stronger feeling

of care for a person. Social media allows people to send text messages, make video calls and

even share pictures. Therefore, this means that if maybe a person has stayed for a long time

without meeting with his/her friend or family member then he/she cause social media to not text

but even see how they presently look like by using video calls or sharing images. Ellis Jones

(2007) indicates that effective communication is essential in enhancing a stronger relationship

between people.

Social media enhances interpersonal relationships because it allows people to always keep in

touch with each other. This creates a stronger relationship between people who care about other

and also people. Knowing about the where about and how a person is doing from day to day

makes you to always care about them more. Most people highly rely on social media to

communicate with their family members and also friends. Furthermore, you can use social media

to share information with your family or friends on any important for them to learn. In fact,

Barbour and Plough suggested undertook a research which proved that social networking

establishes a stronger relationship between teachers and students (Bower, 2017). Therefore, I can

conclude that social media highly enhances interpersonal relationships.
