Global issue
POLS2401 Global Issues Paper Instructions: Read one of the articles posted on D2L (under Paper Articles tab) and write a 1200-1500 word essay addressing the following questions:
1. What is the global issue raised in this article? Provide specific examples from the article to support your answer.
2. What is the main argument put forth by the author(s) in discussing this global issue? What theoretical perspective (i.e., realist, liberal, radical, etc.) and/or empirical evidence do the authors use to support their argument(s)? Are they successful in effectively demonstrating their points? Provide specific examples from the article to support your answer.
3. Identify the main actors in the international system affected by this global issue and at which particular level of analysis that actor operates (individual, state/domestic, systemic/global). How does this global issue affect the different actors in the international system, for example individuals, states, intergovernmental organizations, nongovernmental organizations, etc.? Provide specific examples to illustrate your points.
4. Considering the relevance of this issue today, what should be done in the future? What actors should respond and how? In your answer, address the impact on and/or response by individuals, states, and transnational actors (IGOs, NGOs, etc.).
Your paper should be double-spaced, Times New Roman 12-point font. The paper is due on Wednesday November 7 by 11:59pm. Submit your paper in the D2L ‘Paper’ folder. I DO NOT accept late papers—papers submitted after the due date will receive a 0. Extensions may be granted at my discretion in the case of a documented, excused emergency, but you must get permission from me prior to the due date. *This assignment addresses the University System of Georgia Learning Outcome II: Global Perspective: Students will analyze political, cultural, or socioeconomic interactions among people and cultures. Grading Rubric *Each criterion listed below will be assessed on a 10 point scale. Question 1 (20%):
• Student correctly identified and discussed the global issue raised • Student provided specific examples from the article.
Question 2: (30%)
• Student correctly identified and discussed the author’s main argument. • Student identified the theoretical perspective AND defended that choice. • Student makes a coherent argument about whether or not the author successfully
defended their point.
Question 3 (20%) • Student correctly identifies main actors affected by this issue AND explains how the
issue affects them. • Student correctly identifies the level of analysis of these actors
Question 4 (20%)
• Student identifies what should be done about this issue in the future, and makes a coherent argument.

• Student uses appropriate sentence structure and grammar for a college paper. Suggestions for writing your paper: DO:
• Read every article! Once you have read them all, you should have no trouble selecting one that helps you answer every question.
• Consult your notes before you do this. The lectures on Realism, Liberalism, and the Levels of Analysis lectures should be really helpful!
• Use my rubric to construct an outline for the article you choose. This will help make writing the final paper easier.
• Answer every question asked—don’t leave points on the table! DON’TS:
• Plagiarize! It’s the only academic offense a person can never recover from. You have everything you need to do this assignment well and keep your integrity and good name intact. (Any person I catch plagiarizing will receive a 0 on this assignment and the matter will be referred to judicial affairs.) It is not necessary to cite my notes or the textbook for this assignment. You do not have to bring in an outside source, but if you do, make sure it is cited properly!
