Paper Guidelines

Due in class on 10/18/19

Guidelines for essay:

Essays should be 5 -6 pages in length, double-spaced in proper APA format. If you are unsure what APA format check out this site online: https://owl.english.purdue.edu/owl/

Topic:

You are free to choose a topic that most interests you. I must approve of the topic. Think of the political science topics that most interest you. Is there something you have always been curious about? Can you develop a research question out of that curiosity? For example, would you be interested in understanding more about the low levels of voting in the U.S.? Or are you more interested in comparative politics and want to compare two countries’ educational systems. What about studying the effectiveness of the UN’s peacekeeping programs? Or are you interested in reducing gender violence and want to research why gender violence is so persistent? You are free to follow your interests but the topic must be a political science question. From there, develop a thesis, find evidence to support your thesis and write a well-written 5 – 6 page paper.

Remember: Develop your own thesis and back up your argument with concrete examples, statistics, and quotes from your research.

What I will consider when grading:

1. Is the essay written free of grammatical errors?

2. Does the essay have a thesis? Is it outlined well? Does it include an introduction and an explanation of the specific issue you have chosen? Does it provide evidence for your argument, and does it explain how the American system is impacted? Does it include a conclusion?

3. Did you cite your sources using APA format?
