5 PAGE PAPER
Introduction (2 pages)
Introduce your research topic, its importance, and the topic you will be surveying people about. Define your research question and the purpose of your survey. Why is this an important research topic? You should have at least three or more paragraphs talking about the importance of the topic and what the current literature says.
This section was largely covered in HW 1. However, this section should be a more detailed version of HW1 with citations and a bit of literature review (What studies related to your chosen research topic have found/stated about topic---look at www.google.com/scholar or ask a librarian to help you find article/books on the topic of your survey).
Methods: Population, Measures, Mode, Sampling (2 pages) Population
Define the target population of interest. Describe how you sampled and contacted survey respondents. Was your sample a probability or non-probability sample? What method did you use? You must specific/name your sampling method and describe how you did it. You must discuss the advantages and disadvantages of the sampling method you choose.
Also, how did you contact respondents (e.g. email, web link, etc.)? When and for how long was the survey available? How many people were sent your survey, how many people completed the survey and calculate your response rate.
Measures
Describe the measures in your study. Outline what the dependent and independent variables are. Identify which questionnaire item corresponds to each variable (table from Homework 4).
Discuss how well the measures from your questionnaire capture the construct that you wish to measure, as sometimes, the measures are not ideal. Describe if you expect any issues of bias when answering any of the questions.
Survey Issues (1 pages)
In this section you discuss any problems you may have had during implementation of the survey (this does not include any group issues, just issues related to launching and implementing the survey). Did you have many people decline to take your survey or people who started the survey but did not finish? Was your response rate low?
More generally, critique your survey. Explain its weaknesses, but explain why your surveys is still useful despite the weaknesses.
