Nicholas Carr, who is an American writer, has published several interesting books and article based on the business culture. In the year 2003, he published an article about It Doesn’t Matter. For the past few years, the use of information technology on businesses process has increased, and Carr argues that the use of IT may be as a result of assumptions by companies. It gives businesses a strategic competitive advantage against their competitors. This paper will discuss Carr’s position on the use of IT in business processes.

Carr argues in his article that It does not give businesses a strategic competitive advantage but rather because IT is scarce. Once IT becomes standard or instead available to people, the strategic advantage it has against competitors disappears. From that argument, it is clear that Carr is against the use of IT on businesses considering that the benefit is temporary and not permanent. From a personal perspective, Carr’s argument is relevant since the use of IT is expensive and not affordable to many businesses or organization. The moment IT becomes cheaper and available for every conventional business small and large, the strategic advantage IT has on businesses will diminish significantly. Therefore, it is essential for managers to stop relying more on IT and start looking for alternatives.

IT is considered by a lot of businesses because of its strategic advantage and also because it is scarce and less available for people because of its cost. IT has worked for companies effectively, but with the evolving technology, there are a lot of things to worry about what the future holds. Businesses should look for alternatives before spending their income on IT systems in fact; they should look for cheaper alternatives.
