Why did Canada and the EU move from GAAP to IFRS?

Description of the paper

Students are required to write a review paper about a topic of their choice related to the use or implementation of IFRS or the use of IFRS vs. US-GAAP. Examples include value relevance of information, tax impact of the different standards, implementation of the standards in different countries, earnings management or any other relevant topic. The paper is expected to be between 6 to 10 pages double space and should mainly rely on academic research in the accounting field.

Guideline to writing the academic paper:

1. Article selection:

The paper should at least include between 8 and 10 articles published in scholarly academic journals. In addition to these articles, you can still cite any other work (magazine articles, professional journals, internet websites, etc…).

2. Structure of the paper (minimum 4 pages):

a. Introduction: where you introduce your topic and provide your thesis statement. In other words, you need to narrow down your research question and explain the aspects of your topic ( one or two issues) that your paper examines (around 1-2 pages)

b. Body of the paper: provide the details of your papers of choice: (1) research question (2) methodology (3) define the parameters used, if any (4) findings and conclusion of these papers (around 4 to 6 pages).

c. Conclusion: summarize all the findings and provide your personal reflections; in other words, what did you learn from this research? (1 to 2 pages)

d. Reference list

3. Format:

a. Cover page: includes title of the paper and name of the student

b. Font: Times New Roman Size:12

c. Spacing: double spaced

d. Citations & References: APA format

e. Page numbers at the bottom of each page

4. Presentation:

a. Prepare around 5-10 slides to describe your research and findings
