INSTRUCTIONS:
FourFiftyOne Publishing’s in-house marketing department will handle the promotion of “Dumpster Fire” and its author, Guy Montag. Your job is to develop public relations materials to promote the novel and its author. (Additional details can be found in the FS17 Scenario Brief.)
You have developed a news release to encourage earned media. Now, Faber has directed you to further promote the novel and author through
owned and shared
media by crafting a blog post to be used as part of a virtual book tour.
Your post will be distributed through a community Facebook page known as “Hot Reads.” This fictional page is maintained by the organization Writer’s Unite and provides a means for authors, editors and others to share news and information about the publishing world.
Your post must promote the novel and Guy Montag. It should explain who Montag is, describe his writing style and include information on a special author LiveChat for the post. It should include key details about the book and the publisher. The goal of this post is to stimulate conversation about “Dumpster Fire,” generate awareness and drive traffic to the novel’s website, dumpsterfire_fourfiftyone.com. The ultimate goal is to get people to purchase the book when it is released.
Successful posts will incorporate the web-writing techniques discussed in lecture and the supplementary readings. Such techniques include:
· An article headline that is self-explanatory and informational
· An article overview that tells readers what the article is about
· At least three distinct sections, each of which has a self-explanatory, informational subhead and a section overview that tells what that section is about
· No chunky, long paragraphs
Prepare your post as a Microsoft Word-compatible file and attach it to the D2L dropbox.
