Writing Quality: (1-3 points each)
· The writing is generally clear. The reader does not have to work to understand sentences and content.
· Complete sentences are used. Sentence fragments are not present.
· Compound sentences are punctuated correctly. Run-on sentences are not present.
· Subjects and verbs, singulars and plurals agree.
· Past or present perfect tense is used to discuss completed studies.
· Apostrophes are used appropriately to designate plurals and possessives.
· Commas are used appropriately. No comma splices are present.
· Semicolons are used appropriately and judiciously.
· The correct form of words is used (affect/effect, their/there).
· Capitalization and italics are used correctly.
· The rule for use of numerals and letters is observed.
· Acronyms are explained when first presented.
· Direct quotations are used very minimally, if at all (maximum: 3 direct quotes).
· The tone is appropriate to a scholarly paper. Colloquial phrases are not used.
· The paper is carefully proofed (e.g., it is apparent that a spell check was used and that the paper was also read in order to identify errors that a spell check/grammar program would not catch, etc.).
· The length limit for the paper is not exceeded.
