ECHE2180 PARENT LEAFLET: FAQs
On this page you will find additional helpful information for your parent leaflet. If your question is not answered here, please post it in the discussion forum for all students to view (making sure to check that it hasn’t already been asked!)
Q. What format should I submit in?
A. PDF please. We want to make sure your formatting doesn’t change. You can create in whatever program you’d like (e.g. word, ppt, adobe), just save in PDF!
Q. Can I do a ‘folding’ leaflet?
A. Yes, but!! Please remember that your pamphlet will be marked unfolded, ensure it is in a logical order for marking. You can do this by not creating a folding pamphlet, or by including clear numbers for markers.
Q. Can I do mine landscape?
A. Yes, of course, but make sure your formatting does not change and it is submitted in a form we can read (upright not sideways please!)
Q. Do I need to reference images?
A. Yes please. This can be done in small wording under the image (for e.g.), as well as in your reference list. Remember, to acknowledge otherwise you are in breach of copyright.
Q. Can I use images of my own children?
A. Yes, of course! Just make sure you use wording such as “personal image” so we know. If it is a child with a different acquaintance to you, such as a niece or nephew, ensure you have parent/guardian permission.
Q. My chosen research paper covers children aged birth to 6 years (or 10 to 15 years, etc), can I still use it?
A. While you are able to use an article that has a wider age range - it is common that they will not perfectly fit into the range for the unit - you need to ensure your specific focus is on findings from children that fit within your age range (i.e., the period you have chosen within preschool or primary school). As such, you should not be focusing on development before or after your chosen age range (e.g. babies, teenagers) as this is not applicable to parents of children in preschool or primary school.
Q. Can I focus on a specific group of individuals (i.e., children with disability)?
A. Remember, the purpose of this assessment is to provide a pamphlet for all parents. As such, if you focus on a very specific group, you are likely writing a pamphlet that is only relevant for a few parents.
Q. Can I focus on a smaller area of the topic?
A. You can decided to be broad or focused, as long as you’re discussing one of the three specified areas for the pamphlet. One important factor to consider is that you pamphlet must be clear, appropriate and relevant for all parents. If you choose a specific area, make sure you are explicit about how it fits within the broader topic/domain.
Q. Can I go over or under the word limit?
A. Yes! Remember, for this assignment, there is no word limit: just a guide based on successful past pamphlets that have met the learning outcomes well. Consider the readability and depth of information you are presenting, and do make sure you stick to the 2 x page limit (with reference list as a separate additional page).
