Women Workplace Discrimination
Introduction
The chosen topic for this research paper is gender discrimination against women in the workplace. The research paper will be trying to answer the question of how women experience workplace discrimination in organizations. Moreover, the question will extend to what measures the Gender Discrimination Laws are taking to curb the growing concern regarding women discrimination at the workplace.
Background
Treatment of an individual differently or unfavorably due to their sex type typically leads to gender discrimination or gender inequality. In the contemporary world, gender inequality in organizations has been a complex situation at the workplace. It has been noticed in organizational processes, practices and structures. Notably, most of the gender discrimination or gender inequalities occur on women, and such acts happen, especially in human resources practices (Bader et al., 2018). Essentially, it is in human resource practices that decision regarding significant aspects such as decision making, policies making, and their enactment are conducted. These practices, in turn, have a substantial impact on major organizational processes like hiring, training, payment and promotion of such gender type.
The issue of gender discrimination, especially against women, has become a significant concern in both developed and developing countries. The figure approximates that about forty per cent of the United States women alone experience workplace discrimination in the organizations they work for. It is an issue that has been spreading across numerous organizations globally, and its solutions have faced stiff opposition from many leaders who do not believe in inequality of power. Gender discrimination, especially in women, occurs in many ways and different in various organization globally. As such, the paper will describe how women face workplace discrimination and what the Gender Discrimination Laws are doing concerning the global issue.
Methodology
To collect the evidence of answering the research question, I will be visiting some of the major organizations with cases related to women discrimination. Here, I will conduct numerous interviews with some of the victims to gather first-hand data, the primary data for further evaluation. Besides, I will use closed-ended questionnaires, which will be randomly administered to women working in the organizations. Furthermore, I will conduct a literature review to determine what other authors have said about the topic. This will generate secondary data, which will be verified to come up with concrete results.
Importance
Gender discrimination or gender inequality is a topic that has raised concerns in the contemporary organizational workplace. It is an aspect that the United States law under Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 has explicitly outlawed (Funk and Parker, 2018). A workplace is where an individual should feel safe and comfortable working regardless of their gender type. About half of the world's population tend to spend a third of their lifetime working, which heavily impacts their health status. Therefore, considering women's discrimination at the workplace is a significant step to ensure everyone can spend such times comfortably. In the long end, this will lead to healthy and happy communities with highly motivated workforce capable of increasing the production rate of organizations they work for.
Hypothesis
The possible hypothesis the research is likely to offer is that many women face workplace discrimination in their organizations. One of the discrimination I anticipate discovering is sex discrimination. Many organizational executives, especially in human resource management, tend to offer women jobs opportunities or promotions in exchange for sexual harassment. Besides, more men tend to get promoted during promotion opportunities than women despite women qualifications for promotion. Many organizational leaders still have the notion that men should always lead and women to follow. Such leaders can promote men than women regardless of women's qualification to such promotion chances. Also, I anticipate discovering men get high pay than women even when they both have similar skills and knowledge or when performing similar tasks.
