Project Background

Please reference Figure 1. a Wellness Clinic / Hospital is one of the biggest hospitals in Philadelphia. You have recently bought the Wellness Clinic / hospital.

You own the Wellness Clinic / Hospital own, a 5-story building and that houses many departments that span multiple floors. Its Radiology department is spread across the first and second floors, connected by a dedicated local area network (LAN).

Recently, the department implemented a new “Radiology Images” application as part of their initiative to digitize patient records.

Because of this new implementation, sometimes the department staff face long application delays during busy hours. It also experiences regular delays

i. in Internet connectivity,

ii. FTPS services,

iii. web services, and

iv. email services.

The original design, represented in Figure 1, was categorized as a small network that provided services for up to 200-500 devices. They have since surpassed this this capacity, hence the traffic congestions in the above services.

You, as the owner and a senior network administrator, are tasked with the job of a complete re-design of the old system from a 500 device clinic / hospital to a robust one of a 1000 devices.

This design must support a medium to large sized network for over 1,000 devices. Thus, it should surpass the current capabilities of 500 devices.

Assignment Overview: PERFORM IMPROVEMENTS

This assignment requires you to perform improvements in a congested, wired LAN/WAN environment by implementing to varying degrees a new IT infrastructure design and fully functional in Packet Tracer.

To learn more about Packet Tracer congestion improvement, please study the Cisco Packet Tracer DS PDF. Later, in Phase II of the assignment, you will scale this design to a larger enterprise IT infrastructure.

To begin the assignment, please study some cisco publications to identify what is appropriate to improve system feasibility, RAS (reliability, availability, serviceability), security, and disaster recovery of the existing IT infrastructure and model of your system.

Once you finish a study of cisco congestion improvement publications, please use your findings to advance and improve the IT infrastructure.

Even though Packet Tracer’ simulation capabilities are limited, please be creative! For example, if Packet Tracer does not have a file sharing service for a file sharing server, turn on any other related and relevant services that are available.

As another example, use LAN and WAN protocols that are optimal given what the version of Packet Tracer allows.

Use your research to outline new opportunities for the future IT infrastructure designs of your new congestion-free networks.

Please the below is information outline as a minimum requirement with examples and ideas.

Minimum Project Requirements

● You should submit a working Packet Tracer lab, typically this file has a .pkt file extension.

· Let this will include the fully operational new IT infrastructure design

· All devices in the lab must be named with your first name and last name

● Please make sure all hardware and software are configured properly and are be able to communicate using optimized networking designs, configurations, and protocols

● Do not use any passwords for any of the devices.

Minimum IT Infrastructure Design and Packet Tracer Requirements

● Make sure to start with a blank/new Packet Tracer file. Do not use a prior packet tracer file.

● Your design is for an IT infrastructure that requires 1000 devices and scalable medium-size Clinic or hospital. Please see the Figure 1 attached.

● your design should go beyond traditional N-Tier designs

● Be sure to design proper addressing via IPv4 and/or IPv6 that scales

● Be sure to add appropriate routers and switches to support this new design

● Also, configure at least one appropriate networking protocol that is operational across the entire infrastructure

● Be sure to use proper network address translation (NAT)

● Be sure to implement private and public IP address spaces correctly

● Make sure your network traffic is well organized, efficient, and secured properly (e.g. limit broadcast domains, do not allow human resources employees to access afFnance systems, etc)

● Please add an Internet Service Provider (ISP) into the design

● Please add enough modularity, resiliency, and flexibility into the design

Design and implement the following new services and servers

● A Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) server that automatically assigns working IP addresses to new workstations

● A name server that manages the Domain Name System (DNS) for all servers in the hospital

● A web server hosted on the Internet

● Two new user workstations located at each level of the building that can use the new services properly

● Show these services working on each workstation in your project (e.g. a website from the web server, DHCP, etc)

● Provide a few clinic/hospital departments as examples beyond radiology
