Re:Topic 4 DQ 1

The decision making process in regards to the three phases makes me think about my own personal journey into becoming a nurse.  I actually used to manage a grocery store, but I didn't start out as a manager.  I started out as a cashier and a single mom and worked my way up.  I actually gave up on nursing school when I found out that I was pregnant, and then right after my son was born, realized I was going to be raising him alone.  One thing I learned is that working your way up in a small place can be a challenge; suddenly your co-workers are your employees.  It involved maintaining relationships with my team and building a relationship where they could trust and respect me and the decisions I made as their boss.  Of course, there were challenges along the way, but communication and teamwork helped build a foundation where everyone worked together well.  Decision making in person-social objectives happened often.  This was a god job, but not my passion; I wanted to be in healthcare but I was afraid to start school and leave the comfort of that job.  I finally got the courage to go to school and never looked back; I had researched where I could go to school locally and not disrupt my son's routine too much.  I then had to figure out a way into a hospital.  I knew I wanted to work in a hospital setting, but wasn't sure where to start.  I left my job in retail and got a position in an ancillary department that would work around my school schedule.  This also gave me my foot in the door, and I easily was able to transfer to a med/surg floor once I graduated.
