Since I live in Colorado I chose to pick a legislator that is also a nurse that worked in my state. Sara Gagliardi is a nurse and has also served in the Colorado House of Representatives from 2006 to 2010 (Wikipedia, 2010). According to an article published by the Denver Post, during the Democratic National Convention, blood supplies get critically low and this also occurs in the summer months (2008). Sara Gagliardi listened to the issues that were happening in the health care field that needed to have a solution. Not only were blood banks being affected but anyone who needed blood would have been too. The solution she purposed was to lower the age limit for blood donations to 16 years of age with parental consent (Denver Post, 2008). The more people available to donate blood the better. That means that with this bill passed that more people are able to donate to people in need in the health care setting. It takes people like Sara to pass bills and listen to the needs of the community to make a difference.
