Presentation Requirements and Tips – Presentations begin Monday March 26
You have 5 minutes. You will be timed. You may speak for less than 5 minutes, but not more!
What you say:
1. Introduce yourself
2. Discuss your original text – Who wrote it? When was it published? Where was it published? Etc.
3. Tell us why you chose this particular text
4. Show us your 1st remediation – If it is a visual, show us. If it is a text, read it to us. If it is long, read part of it. If it is auditory, play it for us.
5. Tell us a little bit about the medium that you used
6. Tell us your intentions with the remediation – What was the message you were trying to convey?
7. Were you successful with your remediation? Did the audience or tone change with your remediation?
8. Answer any questions from the audience
9. Thank the audience for their time.
10. Appreciate the applause
How you say it:
1. Practice. Do a dry run in front of the mirror or in front of some friends.
2. Take a few deep breaths.
3. Do a couple of tongue twisters. Repeat: Red leather, yellow leather. Repeat: Sheena leads, Sheila needs.
4. Pretend like you are not nervous. Even if you are, unless you are shaking uncontrollably, most of us won’t be able to tell.
5. Speak slowly.
6. Avoid “uuuum” and “like” and other unnecessary “fillers.”
7. If it stresses you to make eye contact, look at the tops of peoples’ heads. It looks like you are making eye contact.
8. Use notecards with bullet points as reminders. Don’t read from them.
9. You can use your hands and some body language, but nothing too distracting.
10. Be proud of your project and have confidence.
