Topic: Use of coffee residues on the construction field

1. Introduction:

Unfold the objectives of this study and evaluate the possibility of combining a highly organic waste (Coffee Residues) to develop a sustainable construction material.

2. Research:

Explain my findings and the different ways to use coffee residues for construction purposes.

A. Combining coffee residues with furnace slag and fly ash for a sub-grade construction material.

https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/abs/pii/S0950061816305578 • Introduction of this project • Explain the process • Results

(CG) Coffee grounds (S) Slag (FA) Fly Ash (USC) Unconfined Compressive Streght (OLC) Optimum Liquid Content

I found the results of this investigation really interesting, Thats why I added the screenshot of the conclusions and I want to understand deeply how it worked for the researchers.

B. Combining coffee waste with resin in order to develop sound-absorbing panels used as a by-product in buildings.

https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/abs/pii/S0013935120301742 • Introduction of this project • Explain the process • Results

This research goes beyond getting just the results on the sound-absorbing panels. It explains how the production volume of coffee waste has increased greatly. As coffee consumption increases, coffee waste increases and everyday there are more and more researches on how to recycle this organic waste, which is basically what I want to find out with this research project.

Also, It shows how coffee waste is already used in various ways such as bio fuel, soil amendment, biochar, and bio composite.

-Here is an image that shows the manufacturing process of the sample to measure the acoustic absorption coefficient and the compressive streght of this new product.

C. Adding coffee grounds to improve the thermal properties of plaster composite. https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/abs/pii/S0959652618335431

• Introduction of this project • Explain the process • Results

This study identifies the thermal properties of composite plaster using spent coffee grounds as a promising way to lower heating/ cooling loads of buildings.

By using the ‘box method’ is how researchers were able to calculate the thermal conductivity of the plaster with the coffee residues, which they got amazing results out of their different samples.

D. Keep looking for more experiments on my topic…

3. Analysis:

By comparing these previous researches, I want to focus on which way this organic residue that is coffee residues can be use in the construction field as - A sustainable product. - A way to reduce the major amount of residues. - Different sufficient ‘new products’ that can be applied on the construction field and its

efficiency

4. Conclusion: Analysis + Soon to be known…
