Heat Loss

How much heat does your home lose during the winter? Experts say 25-35% of heat escapes through your roof and chimney. Approximately 20 – 35% escapes through the walls. Windows and doors let approximately 20 – 25% of the warmth escape, and approximately 15% melts into the floor. Wall and attic insulation can reduce the loss of heat in a home by 2/3.

In this infographic, insulation is represented in walls by the yellow bar on the wall. Most houses have hollow outer walls. The gaps in the walls can be filled with foam which hardens and insulates. A yellow bar also represents insulation in the roof. As much as 20% of your energy bill can be saved by good roof insulation.
