P_SS: Social Science for Postgraduate Study

Portfolio Assessment

The assessment for the P_SS – Social Science for Postgraduate Study module is a

Portfolio. This is comprised of two individual pieces of written work that are based on the

content that is covered throughout the module. The Portfolio is designed to assess the

learning outcomes of the module as expressed in the Module Outline. Below is a summary

of each Portfolio Theme. More details for each Portfolio Theme will be uploaded separately

on to MOLE.

Portfolio Part 1

A piece of written work where the student discusses social science research, with a particular reference to their chosen social theme, identifying commonly used research strategies, considering crucial factors relevant to researching the chosen theme and making observations about the most appropriate research strategies.

Portfolio Part 2

A piece of written work where the student discusses factors determining researcher’s choice of methodology, making references to ontological and epistemological perspectives, methodological approaches and other relevant factors. The Portfolio Themes will be weighed as follows:
