Introduction Comment by Dodson, Dianna:
Generally, most people tend to view global warming and climate change s as an interchangeable terms, but the title in this article (“Global warming and climate change”) published by Gale, a Cengage Company, form a contrary perspective by including the interjection 'and' between the two terms. instead of using the interjection 'or.'
The title
The perspective in the title, (global warming and climate change, ) challenges the reader to think and question their general perspective. Is there any significant difference between global warming and climate change s? What is the similarity and difference between global warming and climate change? In the process, the author first challenges the reader to think and review their perspective early before reading the article's content. This forms a dynamic perspective that includes personal thought and the need to find out what other people think about the two terms. Specifically, the title creates a need for the reader to determine what the author focuses on concerning global warming and climate change. As the interest to read more about the article builds, up, the authors immediately introduce the article content by arguing that although the two terms are interchangeable, they have different meanings. The author clearly defines and shows the difference between the meaning of the two terms that support the claim and the nature of the title. Unfortunately, the author does not explain why most people use global warming and climate change interchangeably. This limits the credibility of the title at first, but later, the content that explains causes of climate change, climate change predictions, and global warming effects introduces new perspectives and theories that create a balanced content for both global warming and climate change. Therefore, the title stands out in a catchy manner and represents the article fairly well. Comment by Dodson, Dianna: If this is the article title, shouldn’t it use standard capitalization? Global Warming and Climate ChangeAlso, in formal writing do not use ( ) except for in-text citations Comment by Dodson, Dianna: author or authors? Comment by Dodson, Dianna: This is confusing. How can 2 terms be interchangeable if they mean different things?Maybe:Although they are often used as if they are interchangeable, they have… Comment by Dodson, Dianna: Defines and shows This is common in our drafts. Your brain is throwing different ways of saying what you want to say at you and we put down both with an “and”.When you get down to your final drafts, look for these and, if both words mean basically the same thing, pick one.
The claim
The author in this article seems to agree and claims that both human activities and natural cycles cause global warming and climate change .and In the article the author introduces the idea that there is strong evidence for global warming and climate change that to a significant percentage of people believe they occur due to human activities while trends. At the same time, the rest believe that it is due to the natural cycle. “There is a strong scientific evidence for global warming and climate change, but some people disagree the trends are anthropogenic or driven by human activity.” Arthur argues that the earth's atmosphere as greenhouse gases such as carbon dioxide, methane, and nitrous oxide. This argument supports the climate claim that human beings and natural cycles significantly cause global warming and climate changes. Arthur provides both statistical data and real-life situations that support his claim. For instance, one of the main ideas in the article shows that statistically, climate change has been proven since the sea level is one indicator showing that from 1993 to 2019, the level has risen at 3.3 millimeters annually. The case and incident of natural catastrophes such as the massive wildfire in California and the 2017 hurricane season provide a better explanation of the cause of climate change and global warming. , as the author claims. These are also real-life events that have occurred naturally and therefore provide significant evidence of what the author claims. The evidence also extends from over a long historical period and shows current natural events related to global warming and climate change. For example, the long extended period of rising sea level and several volcanic activities show a long time cause of global warming and climate change. On the other hand, the current natural incidents of wildfires and hurricanes show s continued and present natural cycles to global warming and climate change. All this information adequately backs up the author’s perspective and therefore forms the best and most fitting claim. Comment by Dodson, Dianna: Are you supposed to cite your quoted material in this assignment? Comment by Dodson, Dianna: Who’s Arthur? 😉 Comment by Dodson, Dianna: This is an incomplete sentence Comment by Dodson, Dianna: If Arthur IS the author, use his full name the first time you use it, then use his last name after that and don’t use “the author/s…”
The opposition
Opposite to Arthur's claims, the author mentions that human activities contribute to global warming and climate change. The author outlines and discusses several human activities that lead to global warming and climate change, such as creating and reducing artificial greenhouse gases such as hydrofluorocarbons, perfluorocarbon, and sulfur hexafluoride through industrial processes. This context shows that human activities are also a significant source of greenhouse gases. The statement "Beginning in October 2015, a methane gas leak from a California storage facility vented about five billion cubic feet of gas into the atmosphere. The leak took more than three months to seal and was finally capped on February 18, 2016. The incident constituted the largest accidental discharge of greenhouse gases in US history, releasing the equivalent of the yearly exhaust emissions from 572,000 automobiles." This provides evidence that human activities cause global warming and climate change. Given the context above, it is apparent that the author fairly and appropriately represents the disagreement against the claim that global warming and climate changes are caused by natural cycles. Comment by Dodson, Dianna: How is this opposite if the article claims that both natural cycles AND human activity contribute to global warming and climate change? Comment by Dodson, Dianna:
The common Ground
Besides the disagreement on the cause of global warming and climate, the author seems to support that both parties significantly agree that the increase in global warming and climate change can lead to major threats. The author uses United stated political parties, (the Republicans and the Democrats, to demonstrate a common perspective about global warming and climate change. to the country. a Although there is a variation in the rate of agreement about the future threat related to global warming and climate change, is different both Republicans and the d Democrats believe that there is a threat. Comment by Dodson, Dianna:
Statistics and other supporting evidence
In both the opposition and the claim, the author uses d real-life situations as evidence for climate change and global warming and its effect on human beings. Statistically, the author argues about the total cost involved due to hurricanes provides statistical data that shows the financial impact of this catastrophic e. season. Specifically, the author states, "The hurricane season of 2017 proved to be the costliest hurricane season since 1900, with over $265 billion of property damage in the United States and the tragic loss of life in Florida, Texas and Puerto Rico." This claim shows statistical evidence of the economic threat of global warming and climate changes. Economic is a factors that affect s every individual in the world. Thus, using it as evidence in the article provides a general perspective about the impact of global warming and climate change. The research er carried out the study was done in 2020, which means that the evidence is credible and suitable for evaluating and understanding current global warming and climate change issues. Unfortunately, the article is based on a limited geographically to survey (within the United States ) and therefore the reader can only assume the evidence as relevant within this study's scope. Comment by Dodson, Dianna: Stay in present tense when referring to what the article says Comment by Dodson, Dianna: If you don’t want to use the author’s name over and over, you might go back and forth between “Arthur” and “the article.” Switching between “Arthur” and “the author” doesn’t work.Because they are too close so it’s confusingBecause it’s always better to be specific vs general
Expert/credibility
The author of this article focuses on global warming and climate change as a national issue that affects the United States of America n. With this in mind, the author includes different articles' s content , such as from the United Nations, T the previous P presidents Barrack Obama , and President Donald Trump, climate activists, and NASA. These groups for expertise are credible for this study because they consist of professional scientists, international organizations, and political influencers ( policymakers ) that have a significant interest in global warming and climate change. In other words, each of these groups significantly advocates for understanding the causes, predictors, effects, and countermeasures related to global warming and climate changes, which are the key areas of focus in this study.
