The 1990s were coined the Decade of the Brain. During this time, the National Institutes of Health made great efforts to promote research in neuroscience and apply this research to public awareness and education. This effort extends to current times as schools, hospitals, researchers, and private sector businesses and clinicians work to apply brain wellness to all age groups.

A fundamental path to understanding how to maximize brain wellness begins by taking time to learn basic brain structure and function. The fields of neuropsychology and neurology are quickly changing how many different types of health care providers assess, treat, and rehabilitate clients/patients. At the same time, educators are integrating brain wellness to primary schools to apply early education interventions. There are multiple schools around the country initiating brain anatomy lessons at just the kindergarten level.

This learning topic provides an opportunity to dive into critical anatomical structures and pair functions to locations in the brain. In order to understand how to maximize brain fitness, you need to understand how essential brain functions work.
