Learning Outcomes
This week students will:
1. Discuss the conventions associated with business journalism and government journalism.
2. Compose a news story on a business or government topic for print and broadcast media.
Introduction
Since mainstream media focuses more on sports and entertainment journalism, many people do not readily recognize the conventions of other specialized areas like business and government journalism. By exploring various publications and programs related to these areas, we can begin to understand the intricate nature of business and government journalism and more clearly see the distinctions that come along with stories geared toward such topics. This week, you will have the opportunity to create a news story for a print publication and a broadcast news story on a topic related to business or government journalism.
