The Power of Persuasion

06/08/2022

Outline a Persuasive Proposal

Introduction

Millions of people use plastic water bottles because we all need to drink water to stay healthy. On the other hand, many people don't know that drinking from a plastic bottle may be worse for your health than good. Use refillable water bottles instead of single-use plastic bottles because they are cheaper, healthier, and better for the environment. Some refillable water bottles are made of plastic, but they are meant to be used more than once. Even though refillable water bottles may seem pricey at first, they will save you money in the long run (Mauroner, 2019).

Research question

Is the use of reusable water bottles appropriate for use in modern society?

Thesis

It is highly appropriate to use reusable water bottles in the modern society.

Outline

Topic:

Appropriateness of reusable water bottles based on users perspectives

Introduction:

This is used in introducing the main subject topic of the discussion which focuses on the use of reusable water bottles. People have mixed feelings on the use of reusable water bottles with some of the people supporting the use of the water bottles that can be recycled while others are against the use of the bottles. Each side of the argument is supported by evidence from scholarly source. An argument is raised after which a counter argument is also raised with evidence used in discrediting the counter argument in support of the main thesis of the discussion. The discussion is based on the main thesis which is reusable water bottles are appropriate in the modern society.

Body

Paragraph 1: Provides an overview of the use of reusable water bottles including the prevalence of reusable water bottles across the world.

Paragraph 2: Supporting paragraph- Supports the use of reusable water bottles on the basis of reduction of plastic disposal. This serves as part of effective and positive environment management.

Paragraph 3: Supporting paragraph- Supports the use of reusable water bottles as the owner does not have to keep on purchasing new bottles thus incurring less expenses.

Paragraph 4: Supporting paragraph- The use of reusable water bottles reduces carbon footprint. This refers to the total greenhouse gas emissions that may be caused by place or product, individual or event.

Paragraph 5: Counter argument- Argues on the inappropriateness in the use of reusable water bottle on basis of heath and sanitation.

Conclusion

It provides a comprehensive summary of the main points discussed in the paper. This entails the supporting arguments: environmental management through reduced plastic disposal, cost reduction and reduction in carbon footprint. Also, it provides the counterargument and why the point of argument can be discredited. Also, the thesis of the discussion is summarized.

Reflection questions

1. The most challenging aspect in conducting research is developing time schedules that are appropriate. This is because the research process is faced by very many contingent events such as low participant cooperation or inconveniencies when natural events such as rain or storms affect travel schedules. Also, cost is a challenge in that sometimes there is occurrence of research.

2. The statement of thesis used is debatable in that it can either be supported or criticized against. This is evident as some people may argue in support of the thesis statement while others argue against the statement. This makes it easily debatable in which each of the side raises genuine arguments.

3. The outline introduces the research topic and provides main paths to be followed in the discussion. This allows the audience or readers of the paper to understand what they expect from the discussion. The presence of more supporting arguments compared to the counter arguments proves the main thesis statement on appropriateness of the use of reusable water bottles is credited.

4. The kind of feedback that would be helpful is that which seeks to identify information gaps and how to improve the gaps. This enhances effectiveness of the discussion. Among the spefic questions to develop in making the paper more comprehensive and reliable include: Is there quantifiable evidence in supporting the highlighted thesis? Is there any probability of bias in the research? Is the research question sufficient to guide data collection approaches?
