Improvement Needed for GA Infrastructure in KSA

Introduction

General Aviation in the Kingdome of Saudi Arabia needs more concentration in order to be improved. The problem is that the Infrastructure of GA is weak and has been ignored for years. What we need to improve? And how? All aspects of GA, such as maintenance facilities, hangars and parking services, fuel services, FBOs distribution around KSA needs to exist and work properly. That will be accomplished if the Kingdome draws a plan and start following it.

Background

In Saudi Arabia, there are only three flight schools and one flying club that is funded and operated by a group of people. There is only one GA airport in the whole Kingdome which is Althumamah airport. There is no university that provides a degree in aviation sciences with flight training.

Discussion

I think Saudi Arabia has all the capabilities to have a strong based GA. Many people in KSA are passionate about aviation and would like to do what they love in their country rather than traveling and paying a fairly high amount of money to enjoy flying in GA planes. Improvement of GA means improvement in the Kingdome’s economy and more residents satisfaction.

Analysis; Strength

As mentioned, GA improves the country’s economy and people satisfaction. It makes an ease in transportation more than just depending on commercial flights.

Weakness

There is a lack of FBOs, maintenance facilities, hangers and many other needs for GA in KSA.

Opportunities

Enhancing GA will attract young people to aviation and let those who have their passion in aviation to do what they love, which will make them to contribute in the growth of the aviation industry in KSA.

Threat

As Saudi Arabia now experiencing the threats of war in the southern part of it, which is the most beautiful part in the Kingdome that has a cool weather, different terrains and beautiful nature. Which could threat the growth of GA. Some restriction on aviation in the Kingdome to aviation in KSA could be another factor that can threat the improvement of GA. Also, the lack of demand in the first period after accomplishing the project can be count, because people did not get used to GA.

Conclusion

With taking the points that have been discussed into consideration, KSA can save money by creating their own universities and flight schools that provide degrees in aviation sciences with the required flight training to get people their license instead of sending students outside of the Kingdome to conduct their studies in aviation.

KSA needs to build up their expertise to take the lead into aviation field’s improvement, rather than bringing foreign expertise to do that.

Recommendation

I would recommend that the government of KSA to establish an official GA consult which can be a department in GACA (General Authority of Civil Aviation) in KSA.

Demonstrating the project for GA under the supervision of that GA consult. Also, asking the government to fund that project represented by GACA.
