OUTLINE REL
OUTLINE CONTROVERSIAL TOPIC RUBRICS
This is a 2000 level course and in REL it is expected that
each 2000 level course will have a research component.
The Outline fulfills this expectation.
1. Absolutely no personal opinions are allowed. This is a
research instrument only. If you feel compelled to share
your personal opinion, the Outline will be returned with an
“R” … you can “repair” OR get an “F” .
2. The Topic will cover at least one organized religion
we’re studying in class.
3. A key is balance…showing fairly and objectively
positions held by liberal, moderate and traditional
points of view. For instance, take Abortion:
in Protestant Christianity liberals are “pro choice,” moderates
accept Abortion in cases of rape, incest, danger to the life of mother
or child; traditionalists do not accept abortion in any circumstance.
You will give examples of churches that fit into each category.
NO PERSONAL OPINIONS.
4. You will use “qualifying” language and avoid words like “all,” “everyone,” and the like.
5. Avail yourself of the opportunity to show me a rough draft, if
you are not sure of your work.
6. YOU WILL INCLUDE THE FOLLOWING, AT THE END OF YOUR
OUTLINE TEXT.
I have read the Outline Controversial Topic rubrics and
followed them here. Initial please.
